WACKY Fuel Guage
WACKY Fuel Guage
Seems when i get close to empty (less then 1/4) of gas the guage jumps ALOT!. i once saw it go down from 1/4 full to giving me the re-fill light to going back to 1/4 full, in a several minute time frame. Even my naviagation screen shows me the milage to empty go way down and up again. I dont notice this when i fill up, but usually when i get low it can go from you need to pull over now to you have 30 miles until empty. anyone else have this problem?? Is this typical?

That happened to me once...I was driving to work and noticed the fuel gauge drop from 3/4 of a tank to Empty in an instant, the light came on....I kept on driving and the guage crept back up to 3/4 tank within 10 mins....called Infiniti, they told me to bring it in if it happens again...it hasn't yet....the car is a 2007 and I only put about 200kms on it before it did this.
it is sensitive to your driving style, Ive found it to be a prediction of how much gas would be left if you were to continue to drive the way you do. As in if you are consistently speeding, the gauge will read lower than if you were to be driving normally. This means if you start driving slower from the point you see the light came on, the gauge could read higher for a period of time.
the fuel guage will vary depending on how you take your corners. if you take a long sweeping curve right (like when entering highway via a cloverleaf ramp), the fuel level will change (i think it'll drop)... it will recover within a few minutes.

huh?
are you reffering to the fuel level sensor? some cars had/have the bobber style which causes guages to fluctuate, not sure what kind the G has, but sudden acceleration/turning would cause it to read incorectly. But i usually drive pretty normal and ive noticed it several to many times driving in normal conditions at constant speeds. and it only happens (that i notice) at low fuel levels. 1/4 tank or less. I remember on my dads old buick, well 95 the fuel guage would actually move slightly according to how you accelerated, it was solid car.
