install short shifter help
what is the easiest way to remove the factory control socket out of the shifter? i've been trying for 30 min. and run out of idea how to pull it out; even the brute force. thanks for any help!

You don't have to. I just put an RE in my car about a month or so ago. Just pull the trim up around the shifter and unscrew the first layer of bolts. There are 4 10mm nuts and then you take othe other three. Go under the car to unscrew the 12mm one that holds the shifter in place (use a small size ratchet becaus you have to get your hand above the exhaust pipe. and you are all set. If you are talking about the white plastic that clifftrail mentioned you don't remove that. When you buy your short shifter it automatically comes with it.

No it doesn't. The Control Socket is an extra you have to purchase if you don't want to take off the old one. It's about $12 bucks for the socket. The part number is 32870-CD000.

You can reuse the old SHIFTER CUP. The shifter only comes out one way so make sure you look at it carefully first.
1. Use a vise or something else that has 2 sides and an open center (2 tables, etc). Place the cup onto the vise, not in it, so that the the side where the shifter will exit is resting ontop of the vise -I- (Best pic I can do) The I is the shifter, the - is the vise and the cup would be resting ontop of the vise.
2. Be sure that the shifter will exit down. Now grab a piece of wood, phone book, etc and place it ontop of the metal shifter (Top of the I). Grab a mallet and give it a good WHACK! The shifter will drop down!
3. Be sure to have something below the vise etc to catch the shifter!
4. Install old cup onto new shiftwer in the reverse manner

I will try it later to see if it works. Either way, I already placed order for a new control socket at my local dealer for $17. Can't wait to feel the RE shifter.

I installed a B&M Shifter on my car over a year ago, and there was nothing that I needed to reuse. Everything slid right onto the car...
Don't know what brand you are using, but sounds like a pain in the ***...

when i put my rouge in i bought a new one. I remember reading somewhere that popping the old shifter out of the plastic thing put a lot of strain on it (and was a pita) and compromised its strength.
