its more than 7k when your engine blows up and its not under warranty. and other reliability issues where you're always fiddling and tweaking. also, 1hp from the factory is like 1.5hp from the aftermarket. see porsche 911 (on paper they only have 25 more hp than us, but u go mod your car to 350hp and try to race one).

Keep in mind that there are two factors in performance: HP and weight. The 911s are quick because their curb weight is around 3100 lbs. The Lotus Elise is very quick with a 225 HP engine because it is so light.

I disagree, there's too much of a gap in perfromance to make up for. NA mods just don't do enough, especially off the line. With his mods should he have been able to take and M3? 335i and M3 are very close in performance.

Now if this guy happened to have an XEDE or other turbo mod then there's no contest to begin with.

Guys, the 335i is nothing to **** with, it's damn fast! I spent almost 3,700 mi in one, in two weeks, in many driving scenarios including tracking at the Nurburgring. The car finally gets back the US and the first day he picks it up, my bro, the little punk that he is, picks a race with a G35 coupe. Before you knew it we hit 140mph and the coupe was left in the dust trying to keep up. That said, I still would like someone with an FI coupe to shut up my bro's braggin @$$ already. Any takers?

ummm, the 335 has 300 hp the g has around 290 stock depending upon the model year. With the laundry list of mods the guy had it should have been a tie. The 335 is no where near an m3, regardless of what the 335 is being compared to.

I'm sorry.. I'm afraid you don't know what you are talking about. Have you driven both an M3 and a 335i? I have. 335i is pretty damn quick. It deserves the respect given here in this thread.

"No where near" ?? I mean, come on man.

Keep in mind that 300hp is by the new SAE power rating.

Without going FI, or some serious engine mods...no way. If you want to compare numbers compare the tq. the 335 has >300lb*ft tq at 1500RPM all the way to redline. I test drove one and by the time you let out the clutch and start rolling you are pretty much at full boost , they have so much power. It was really a fun car to drive. I wish my '06 Couple felt close to that...

Maybe the M3 is superior in the twisties, but in a straight line the cars are about identical in performance. Also, it's pretty obvious that BMW has been very conservative with the HP they quote for the 335i.

I guess I just don't agree period with you people. Has anyone else raced the 335 yet? I mean, we can't possibly use one race as a lipnous as to whether a few of our standard mods can enable us to keep up. Oh well......

Are you relying upon stuff written on paper? Bimmers are known to be underated from the factory. The 335i is no exception to the rule. There are dyno slips showing that the 335i is putting down about 275hp/280tq (320-330 if you figure in drivetrain loss). BMW is not going to publish numbers that are so close to their existing M3. Another thing to keep in mind is that cars with turbo behave very diffrently and make power differently and that our G's can't match the torque.

Hey, it's OK to be proud of our G's. I am. But I'm not oblivious either. Give respect where it's due. Both are great cars. For now the 335i is faster. Until the '08 coupe.....maybe

Please I'm tired of hearing his mouth. He wants to race me and I keep telling him there's no point.
