V1 concealed display in air vent.

Is there a DIY for putting the V1 concealed display in the air vent to the left of the steering wheel? I have searched and couldn't find anything. If someone could post a link to one i would greatly appreciate it.

1. That would be a pain in the a$$ to do
2. You would have to take the radars sensors of the V1 and relocate them to an area that would detect the radar. I guess it could be done but it would be a pain and not easy!!

Hey i heard this< not sure how tru it is, but the temp changes from the air vents can seriously mess up the internals of the detector?

im sure if there is a lot of condensation build up from AC blowing it could short something out theoretically. check out my setup...

there is a separate accessory you can buy and add on to display the V1 alerts. The actual detector stays on the windshield. He wants to mount the concealed display in the a/c vent. member filanj has a custom set up where the display is set up above the airbag in the steering column. search for v1 hardwire. I have not seen the concealed display in the ac vent. I have seen it in the rear view mirror on my350z.com.

Filanj, how did you get the power wire to come out of the back instead of the side? I saw your setup and like how it comes out of the back.

Also can the display be put in the mirror it i dont have the homelink mirror? If i can put it in the mirror without homelink, i am for sure doing this.

I had to rework the internals and bore out some of the internal housing. It actually fits and holds up just as well as it did before..no wiggles or anything.

as for the mirror.. i have the homelink, but wouldn't even try to put it in there. If you put it in the mirror you might as well not have a concealed display. if you look 4 inches to the right you'll be looking at the actual radar detector. IMHO it is only something that looks cool and is not practical

Filanj was it hard to put the display where you did?

Also would it be hard to put a mute switch in the cup holder next to the e-brake?

yes and no

yes it was very costly to keep my original piece intact... spent $50 for a spare piece to cut because I didn't want to screw up my original piece

Running the wire was a sinch... actually cutting the piece out was a royal PITA... probably spend a good half hour to 45 min dremeling and measuring and fitting. if you cut too much it wont sit snug. if you cut too little it wont fit here and there. having to freehand dremel a slight arch was not fun at all.

my spare piece turned out really well actually. you can see in some of the pictures that it is the wrong color. I sprayed it with a low gloss black that is specifically for plastics. it turned out looking great. All that would need to be done for the spare piece would be to match the lower sleeve. I do have an extra lower sleeve that I could paint... but I won't be back to Jersey for another 2 1/2 weeks
