Painting Front Grill

So the guy who is repainting my car tells me this morning that "he can't paint the grill because of the chrome type paint and that it will look good and chip in a month" now I'm pretty sure that all you have to do is sand it down and it will be fine. Can anyone else clarify this for me? I think he is just lazy and didn't want to do it personally.

once the grill is sanded its black ur car is black so black paint on black grill = if any of the paint chips it wont be that noticeable

one guy around my way has black G coupe with grill painted black for over 2 yrs now, I spoke to him over the summer & asked him how often does he get it "touched-up" he said he never has & his grill didnt look bad at all just a few very small chips here & there

its been about 2 months that ive painted mine... some small chips, very hard to notice unless you get really close.... I would recommend sanding all the way down to the black plastic. I didnt, so the chips are grey....

i did semi-gloss, i think gloss would look a bit out of place, just my opinion

Thats what I thought thanks for the feedback guys. I will just take it to another body shop and have them do it instead of these lazy SOBs. I can't wait though i think it looks so clean.

Use a self etching primer

Sand the entire grill and then prime with a self etching primer (etches into any residual chrome).

I get small chips every couple of months. However, if you do a lot of high speed highway driving, plan to be touching up often.

there are chrome clear coats that will protect it...not cheap but it exists.

I will invest in some of the stuff when I have more cash.

Thumbs up

Paperchaser, Please post pics when you get it done. I''d really like to see how it turns out. Plus I always like seeing pics of TB coupes.
