First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

Ok I took the G to the track for the first time, 6mt Coupe, and these are the results.

Reaction-------+.306
60 ft.------------2.311
330 ft.----------6.291
ET@ 594 ft.--8.914
1/8 ET---------9.499
1/8 Mph-------77.01
1000'-----------12.174
1/4 ET---------14.519
1/4 Mph-------98.91

That was the run, right next to a mach 1 V8 mustang that ran 14.059 @ 100.88mph. I only got 2 runs in and my first run was like a 14.6 or something. Now remember this was my first time at the track with any car so I'm pretty happy with the 14.5 but I'd like to see at least a 14.2. I think I need to work on my launch and get that 60ft time down a little. I was launching at around 2.5-3k but I think looking back that I could have gone a little higher with all that traction on the track. Anyway let me know what you guys think and any pointers would be great. Oh yeah also there was a 350z running there that did 13.9@110. Didn't get a chance to talk to him though so I dont know if he had any mods but it looked stock.

Oh yeah and running next to the mustang ws pretty cool, I had him off the line but he got me in the end. Tons of fun oh yeah and the best part, Safe and legal!

How many car lengths did the Mach 1 beat you by?

I'm with jaxxx- that Z had to have been modded...A supercharger is a decent assumption...

And of course launch is the thing to work on, and it's always fun getting to work on it...Very cool that you got some track time in

Re: First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

The Mach 1 didn't beat me by any car legnths. I didn't even know he won till I got the slips. As for the 350z I happened to run into the guy earlier tonight and I asked him what he had done, he said just the Injen intake so maybe I was off on that trap speed but I was right on with the 13.9.

Has anyone run their G at the track that has some pointers for launching there. I figure there is a bit more traction on the track to launch harder but will have to wait to test thta theory.

How did you launch? Did you just dump the clutch? You should also try riding it to see if you get a better launch. Make sure you react at the light right before the green. You should also be able roll an inch or two right before you take off.

Re: First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

At Summit Point I was turning laps in the 1:30 range, only hitting about 130 on the front straight. I wasn't pushing it hard because it is 5AT and has the stock brakes. I have to say I'm really impressed with this car, the engineers have done a great job of getting the car to be a comfortable highway cruiser and an agressive handling track machine.
Summit Point is a 10 turn 2 mile road course in West Virginia, FYI.
I think this is the kind of track you guys should be taking your cars to, not the drag strip, you are going to wear that poor rearend and tranny out!! lol

Re: First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

I would hope that the G can hold up to a few runs in the quarter mile. I need new tires soon anyway so thats not a concern. as for the Tranny, thats what the warrenty is for, I hope.

I think as far as the clutch goes I just reved it to around 3k and let her lose. I'm kinda afraid to burn the clutch so I think it was all the way in. It all happens so fast though. I did know about reacting at the light b4 the green too so that helped. Hopefully next weekend will bring even better results and I'll get to play around some more. My friend just got his GTI back from the shop with all sorts of goodies and expectes to be running 12's so I'm sure Ill be there.

Hey G, I was just being sarcastic.
I'm not a drag racer, but if I was I would not be dragging the G35C, I would be driving an old camaro that I dropped a big block in, pop a wheelie off the line and run 11's.
You are right about the warranty on the drive train, it's your car, have fun any way you want, that is most important.

Re: First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

1:30s at Summit? Do you mean 1:30.00-130.99 or 130.00-139.99? 1:30 is cooking with stock street tires! 1:39 is sightseeing. About 10 yrs ago I was competitive in PCA events with my, uhm, mostly stock 911sc in the 1:33-1:34 range.I believe ~1:30 would be a decent Boxter S time today. It had ~180hp. My totally stock G-35AT sedan /at feels at least as fast, stops as as well as the 'ol 911 (ought to at the rate it eats pads). It is "as interesting" as the ol 911 in the corners on the street- andclearly less well balanced that a coupe I drove. Havent been to the track with it. How did your brakes/tires hold up in repeated lapping?

Re: First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

I have the 5AT so I didn't really push it too hard. I drive a Formula Ford http://www.dominiontitleservices.com/racepics.htm
and a Datsun 240Z. The 240Z is 180hp and has stock brakes, just use Porterfield pads, and turn low 1:28's.
I have about a gazillion laps at Summit Point so to me the G35C feels like it is just cruising around doing high 1:30.8 and 9s. I was just goofing off and doing 3-4 laps hot then cooling it, then going again. Stock pads and brake lines and I pumped up the tires to 38psi front and 42 psi rear, the shoulder blocks were feathered just a tad but overall the tires held up well, you just have to adjust your line for an earlier turn in as the tires slip a bit before grabbing. I imagine that with slotted rotors and Hawk pads and stickier tires you could do 1:27s.

btw Chuck, where're you located?

Re: First time at the track, Feedback wanted...

GForce, checking your tire pressure might help a little, especially if you've never checked them since leaving the dealer's lot. They're usually overinflated by the dealer. At a dragstrip, that's good for the front, not so good for the rear on a rear drive car. It doesn't make a huge difference like it would with slicks, but it helps.

Comparing your times with mine, it looks like even after the launch my 5AT would increase its lead in tiny amounts at each interval. One conclusion you could draw from that is that your shifting could be improved, since it shouldn't be physically possible for a 5AT to still be pulling away from a 6MT at the 1000 mark. But different track, different conditions, so who knows.
