First post - wish it was better circumstances...

First time to post on here, but its been great so far. I have an '06 Athens Blue Coupe and from advice on this forum I put in the OEM Z-Tube and K&N Drop-in... good stuff albeit minor mods, I know...

So the reason for my post... Saturday someone scraped into my G in a store parking lot. Left some scratches and paint damage. Luckily the person left me a note with their phone number and they want to pay cash for all the damage.

I'm attaching a pic, but my question is how should I go about handling this repair? Dealership, body shop, other specialist?

Welcome to our world.........haha

Consider yourself very lucky that the person that hit you left any information.
You may find out what the cost will be including a loaner car and call this
person to meet you at the dealership.........that's what I'd do!

Call them up and meet them at the dealership to get an estimate. Or if they prefer fax them the estimate, get the cash, get it fixed right at the dealership or some reputable body shop. Did they damage the fender? If not you could just take the cash, get an aftermarket rear bumper, paint, and call it a day.

I don't believe there is any damage other than paint, but I'm going to bring it in to the dealership's collision repair location just to double-check.

Thanks for the advice

bdjncox: you are very lucky like someone else said...

its up to you but if you don't want an after market bumper do it the right way and do to the dealership and get an estimate there.

Take it to a body shop and see if they can help you with a rear lip and maybe even some side skirts and decent paint. It shouldn't cost you more than 1k because they have to blend the quarter.

That is really great that they left their info!... someone must have seen them do it.

Last time someone hit my car, they left a note too. It said:

Tag.... you're it.

Just out of curiosity, anyone know a ballpark figure for repainting damage like that in the picture?

The aftermarket add-on is intriguing but this is a lease so I'll probably just get it back to original condition this time. The two mods I made to the intake were easy enough to switch back out myself when the lease is done.

It looked like a dent on the fender but it could be an optical illusion. Is the paint sratched on the fender or can you rub it out? The bumper definitely needs repainting which will costs anywhere between $200-500. If the fender needs repainting, you could look for a total cost between $400-700.

Call and ask the dealer for their bodyshop. It might not be top notch but good enough. What city/state do you live in?

Must be an optical illusion - there's no dent on the fender. I think the surface damage to the fender can be rubbed out, but yes, the bumper will require the repaint. I did contact the dealership's body shop and will get an estimate later today.

I'm in Dallas, Texas. Question - I've heard some people say that Service King would do a better job than the dealership place (Sewell Infiniti by the way). Opinions on that?

Feel better knowing that most of us who have had similar damage to that same fender are guilty of doing it ourselves early on. She has wide hips.

There have been a number of people that have creased that wheel opening and had it repaired successfully, even when it was in a worse location. Pick a good body shop and you'll be fine. Mine wasn't tops, but you would still never know the damage was there. And I thought that a new panel was going to be needed to match the curves, etc.
