broken trunk

the other day i was closing my trunk lid and it wouldnt close properly, and i noticed both the cylinders that lift the trunk lid broke in half. just wanted to know if this was covered by warranty or it they will say no because i closed it improperly or blame it on ice or something getting in there(which may have been the cause but i doubt it). has anyone had this problem before? i just had the wiring fixed on the trunk last week because it would not open to.

Did you have any luck with this? I had the same thing happen to one of the two supports that hold the trunk open.

For me, I know it was from ice, but it strikes me as being a manufacturing defect, because the struts pivot around a mount that sits in the channel for the water to run through. It's very cold out. If you run your rear defroster, it'll melt, run into the channels, and freeze.

My dealership is going to replace mine, but the part's on back order. I called a few dealerships about it, and they all said the same thing - the part is on back order because a few weeks ago many people all had the same problem.

Mine broke to a week back, will the dealer charge for the lift cylinder or was it covered under warranty?

if it broke and you're still under b2b warranty, i think the dealer will replace if for free

When I read the title, I thought it was going to be someone else who tried to tow their car with their trunklid

I had the gas-strut break on the hood of another of my cars. I just bought a generic gas-strut from the autoparts store, and it worked just as well. Just make sure you get one that is rated for the same weight. Otherwise, it will be either tough to close, or it will slowly close on you.

I had this happen to my G last week, if you are still under warranty, they will replace it, no question. When I brought my car in, I had a gathering of about 10-15 techs and advisors gazing in dis-belief that it actually broke. You don't want to purchase this part, its $240 per strut!!!! Even if you are out of warranty, they still might give you a break and cover it. It was on back order when I called my dealer in Jersey. Good Luck.

Note: Trunk is heavy as $hit, and will not stay up, be careful!!

I guess when the did the aero install they also changed those
struts. Now when I unlock I have to be more mindful. The damn
thing wants to fly open.

$240-
