Average cost to paint the G?
Got a new kit and was thinking of painting the whole g due to the new bumpers, sides, and fenders. What do you think the average cost should be around? About to get some quotes from some local shops just wondering what your guys' .02 is.
lets say keeping it stock Serengetti Sand or going to a custom white paint.

my guess is more money than you're willing to spend.
$6-$7k for a whole change of color.
for the pieces alone, i have no idea, but would guess $1000-$2000 range depending on how much prep work is required??
it all varies on body shop, location, quality of work, experience, etc, etc...

If you try real hard you might get a full paint for around 2-4K. by try real hard I mean meeting someone who is a car guy and understands your budget limitations. Plus you can offer to help out with the stuff no one wants to do. You can do some taping and prepping. Help disassemble parts. Maybe even some sanding. I had a bodyshop guy who let me do everything except the painting and he charged very little...his cost for paint with a couple hundred for his time. Just make friends with someone.

99% of people who get their car re-sprayed a different color do not get a full paint job.
it is unrealistic, since a full paint job also means undercarriage, wheel wells, inside of the car in areas underneath the seats...basically the entire car stripped down to the frame.
even a majority of people just have their engine bay black or come from a black car to begin with.

undercarraige? thats bit much i would think unless its going to be a show car
paint prices depend on quite a few things.
1. is location i know NYC & Northern NJ area lots of bodyshops/paintshops so more competition = lower prices average cost for a decent colr change is about $2000-$4000 (door jams, inside trunk etc.)
maybe in Idaho avg is $4000-$6000 (just ex.)
2. name brand of paint used
3. color you choose, DG can be $25/qt quart & LR can be $40/qt. (just example)
4. metallic paint + more $$$, 2-stage or 3-stage pearl + more $$$$
If your not changing your color u dont need to paint whole car so
id say about $1500 if you want them to install the kit also.
but #1 thing to remember make sure they write it on receipt "factory match gaurantee" dont listen to BS about ohh we cant match exactly because car is not brand new. A expierenced painter will match exact unless car is extremely old or weathered

I really hate when people post about stuff they dont know about. That leads a guy walking into a shop expecting to get the world for 1000.00
You get what you pay for.

...no its u who doesnt know what they are talking about, ppl who think prices in their town is the standard for the rest of the world
u quoted me but didnt read ...R.I.F. ...Reading Is Fundamental
#1 was LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!! please read next time!! maybe in rural sac-town it cost more (& yes its rural compared to NYC) ...this means we both can be right just prices are different over here then over there
after i put price for DG & LR did u read in quotations it says JUST EXAMPLE!!!! those are not actual prices (hence the word example) ...please learn to read
also I said about $1500 if he was NOT getting the whole car painted key word in sentence NOT ...NOT ...NOT
here it is again:
"If your not changing your color u dont need to paint whole car so id say about $1500"
that means $1500 just to paint & install the kit ...if its more than that, Im glad to live where i live because anything higher would be uncivilized unless it involves fabrication
who says anything about getting a completely painted car for 1k or "the world" for $1000
& avg price for paint & clear for a whole G coupe over here is about $700-$800 depending on color, not $1000 ...I painted my G last Jul/Aug, also in my line of business i get about 3-5 cars painted a year. I think i know just a little bit

Hey speaking of reading, did you forget to read the ect. part?
PPG Locks in the price of paint in every state. You cant even get it discounted online because no one sales it online, PPG wont allow it. If your paying 3k for a full paint job then odds are you getting some JUNK material. I can get some paint systems for about 400.00 a setup. But would you want to paint a nice new car with it? As for labor, labor rate in Sacramento is 75.00 per hour. I know in some states it will be less BUT not much less. R&I is going to be about 22 hours on a G35, windows ect. Paint is going to be about 30 hours, if you've written a estimate then you'll know that includes prep
. Now add a ding here and there, bodywork, prime, block ect. Est. 5 hours. Oh lets not forget color sanding! ( This depends on the owner of the car) Does he want a show paint job or factory looking job. About 8 hours. Oh wait! We forgot the jambs! Were not driving a pinto! Add 10 hours paint time ( remember this includes prep!) So all in all you have
1000.00 Material
5625.00 Paint, labor
=6625.00
Well I have to get to bed. I have a full paint tomorrow, its going to be a long day.
PPG paint alone for a full boat is about 1000.00 including sand paper ect
