New G owner...couple questions??
New G owner...couple questions??
I picked up my G yesterday and I freaking love it. I have some questions for all of you veterans out there.
1. Did you go with the sealer package for the paint and interior?
2. Do any of you wax your wheels to keep the brake dust down? If not, what do you recommend?
3. Is the normal break in time about 1,000 miles without going over 4,500 rpm's?
That's all for now. Damn this is a sweet car!!

Re: New G owner...couple questions??
Hi and congrats...
1) No... I declined both. I was planning on going the Zaino route and I really have no reason (kids/whatever) to do the interior protection thing.
2) Yes.. I put Zaino on the rims (18" stock wheels). It seems to make cleaning them easier, but be prepared for the worse break dust you have ever seen in your life. Others have swapped out the pads for ceramic ones and have been happy with the move.
3) No... The owner's manual says 1200 miles and do not go over 4000 RPM. Again, various people have different thoughts about break-in, but my thinking is you cant go wrong by following the manual.
Enjoy your new ride!

Re: New G owner...couple questions??
1. No. That's just free money for the dealer. Just wax the car yourself.
2. Yes. Same wax you use for the car. Note that Infiniti just released a new 3yr/36k mi warranty on the brake pads and rotors. To take advantage of that, you may have to just live with the brake dust for the duration. Of course, switching pads may prolong and reduce dust enough to make you not care.
3. See previous post. Also, no full-throttle starts and try to avoid panic stops. It's in your owner's manual.

Re: New G owner...couple questions??
1) no.. biggest waste of money.. the guy kept lowering the price to try to get me to get the package..
2) yes.. makes it really easy to clean your wheels..
3) really depends on who you wanna believe on the whole break-in thing.. some ppl believe you must baby it, some believe you would actually want to drive it hard.. depends on what you read and who you believe..

Yeah, everybody believes different things about break-in...I personally broke my car in the way I believe is the right way. But for the best right answer, just follow the manual: 1,200 miles, don't go over 4,000rpm. Don't floor it, don't stop too hard (your brakes, gears, and tires need to break-in as well). Congrats on the car and have fun !!

I would rather have brake pads that dust, then to have pads that are harsher on the rotors. I had 'HAWK' pads on my camaro....awesome brake pads, but dusty as hell. I also use Zaino on the wheels to make them easier to clean.

tstewart9000,
1/....No. way too overpriced. You'll do mucy better with Zaino, which I use, or Crystal Guard also very popular.
Zaino also makes some very good interior protection products.
2/....Yes (with Zaino) and that helps very much. I do them about once a month.
3/....The owner's manual is specific about the break-in but basicly don't exceed 4k rpms for the first 1200 miles.
No racing, jackrabbit starts or constant speed driving. (forget the cruise c.)
You might want to read up on seasoning and bedding the brakes (I've misplaced the link, you'll have to do a search).
Enjoy your new ride and congrats.
