is this a good quote?
Re: is this a good quote?
Not bad at all man, actually for your age I am very surprised you got such a low quote. I am 24 had my license for 7 years and this is my second car and I pay 270(Rockland County NY, although I live in Bergen NJ). Are you on your parents policy by any chance ?? If not could you please hook me up with the insurance company you got the quote from.

Re: is this a good quote?
It also depends on your coverage amount. I'm 29, married, and paying $1144/yr. That's with full coverage including uninsured/underinsured motorist, and 100k/300k/50k liability (instead of the state mandated which I think is 15k/30k/5k here). The level of your deductible, and a few other factors play into it. I think I get a whopping $8 discount for the LoJack. It's also a company I trust will actually be there to pay claims in a timely fashion without hassle if something were to happen. (21st Century)

Go under your parents name. From there you will save a lot more money for mods in the year.
Basically have your parents as primary driver and you secondary.

Gawd! At 18 how can you afford insurance? Let alone the monthly payment! When I was 18 I had a crappy used '77 Fiat 4 door. Not exactly the stuff made of Italian sports car dreams! hehe!
I don't own one yet but I will next year!

Please don't take offense but what the hell 2?? how can some1 at that age afford this car? The only way possible is there parents I guess.. And if he parents are not paying for it they are at least co signing for it.. cause I am 27 turning 28 and I can hardly afford this car. hmmm when I was 18 I had a 1985 dodge mini van with no back windows or seats..

Re: is this a good quote?
Let's not start a "you can only afford it if your parents buy it for you" flame war.
There are very young entrepreneurs in this world that can afford such a car early on. Even if parents do buy their kid a car, that doesn't automatically reflect his/her upbringing as a reckless, unsafe snob. This attitude is starting to get old.
You know.. my car at that age was an '83 Ford Crown Vic. A nice big old lady car. But you know what else? My parents paid for it.. the car, the gas, the maintanence, and the insurance. If they could have afforded it, I'm sure it would have been a Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo instead. Why? I was a good kid at that age.. top 10% of my class, well-behaved, etc. etc. etc.
It doesn't matter how or why he can afford it. The question is, "Is this a good price for insurance?" Any further off-topic posts will be deleted.

Re: is this a good quote?
True, but there are some smart people out there that can make some nice dough at early age. I could afford this car back when I was 20 by myself if I lived with my parents, instead I lived on my own and drove a brand new honda accord coupe v6. Heck my total car payments now are the same as they were on my accord, the only thing is that my finance payments and insurance numbers flipped. Dont flame the guy because he is young. Good for you buddy

Re: is this a good quote?
2fast... maybe you can try comparing that quote against others. a friend of mine is currently shopping around and said he's also looking online (progressive, geico, etc) for some quotes, just to see what else could be out there. if you have some time to kill, try that approach. at least you will get some ballpark amount. i'd also consider getting it under your parents. good luck.

Re: is this a good quote?
Just so you know, here are the insurance strikes against you.
1) You're only 18. Insurance companies figure you're reckless until you turn 25.
2) From your name '2fast' I assume you're male.
3) Let's go out on a limb and say you're also single.
4) This car is tagged as a "high-performance vehicle"
Okay. You're male, under 25, single, driving a sports car. These is the worst category to be in for auto insurance. It's going to be expensive anywhere, but do shop around, as some companies will try to extract more than just one pound of flesh from you.
When you compare quotes, make sure everything's the same.. deductible, liability coverage amount, etc. Progressive's website is a good place to start, as they'll give you the quotes of some other companies as well. Might as well try Geico, but last time I checked with them, they wanted twice as much money from me as the next cheapest, and even that place was several hundred more than I'm paying. (I call them the "15% my @$$" company. Okay, to be fair, I was 24 at the time.. maybe it's better after the magic 25.) Also pick up the yellow pages and call the basics.. Allstate, State Farm, Farmer's, etc. Just get on the phone and get quotes from everybody. It's hard to compare somebody else's coverage to your own, as your situation may be different. But by calling, you'll be able to compare the price you'd actually pay with these different companies. When I was 24 and looking to insure myself in my Accord, I got quotes ranging from less then $400 to more than $1200 for a 6-month policy for the same coverage levels. And the less-than-$400 wasn't a fly-by-night company, it was a company with a very good reputation. (21st Century)

... and hopefully, he has no speeding tickets, previous fender benders, or any other traffic violations under his belt.
oh, the nice thing about the G is that maybe he can qualify for other discounts like ABS, new car, passive restraint, good student, etc. these discounts aren't much, but it's still money saved.

Re: is this a good quote?
By no means am I flaming anyone. Just am boggled by the age. I live in Vancouvwer so I am used to seing younger peeps with new M3's sti's etc... but nonetheless it's still shocking to me.
Sorry but I cannot help on the insurance side of things as I am in Canada, All I do know is that it will not b cheap and what the others are saying is true. What would worry me the most would b getting some spreeding tickets then having the insurance company find out about it.. eeeks. I know most of Canada's insurance is based on age etc.. but it also matters if you get speeding tickets.
I am very lucky as here in Vancouver they do not use tickets against u, only accidents, age, type of car etc..
Anyways good luck and enjoy your car... I am waiting un patiantly 2 get mine.
