I need new front brake for my 04 Coupe. I went to 2 dealerships in orange county, California and they quoted me $299 + tax. That's with 2 new brake pad and machinary rotor, does any one know if that's necessory to machinary rotor? Please advise if any other place other than dealership can do the brake work and how much is resonable price.

Yes other places can do the work. You can get a new set of pads for all wheels aftermarket like Project Mu for like 250. You should machine the rotor if it has grooves because it will affect the pads quicker

does your car shake when u push the brake in high speed? if then, rotors should be replaced or resurfaced. if not, i don't think it's necessary unless the service will give u some peace of mind.

Yep.. DIY. Use the money to buy some tools if you don't have them already, and in the end you'll have learned a valuable skill as well as gained tools while still saving money over what you would have spent to pay someone else to do it.

I'm in the same boat as the OP...except all my brake pads require changing. I did order a set of the project mu's thanks to advice off these forums.

However, despite the fact that I've done a lot of work on my old Infiniti I30 at home, I simply cannot do that anymore on the G since I've moved away from home, and live in an apartment with a garage...but its open to the outside air, and the nighttime temps here dip to the teens! This is precisely why some of us have no other choice but to take it somewhere and pay money for it, which does suck. I love it when I can buy parts and install them myself and save a bundle...it IS a good feeling.
