Winter Setup?

Can you guys help me out. I need to put winter tires on, I was wondering what everyone else has done. New rims and tires or just tires. I have found that it damn hard trying to get winter tires in 18's. Any info would be appreciated. TIA.

Re: Winter Setup?

Get yourself a dedicated winter setup in 17 inch size. It will most likely cost you less for tires and rims than just tires in 18's, if you find them that is. And then there is also the possibility of your nice 18s getting scratched when tires are mounted on it.

Can you make any suggestions to which rims and where to order some?

Re: Winter Setup?

I got my rims from discounttiredirect.com and the tires(blizzaks ws50, i think) from tirerack.com I wanted to get everything from tire rack but they were out of the cheaper 17 inch rims until mid to late december. Total for everything was $1100 thats with shippin(rims get free shipping from that site) and mounting ballancing.

I got the MB Motoring Rev 17X7 5-114.3 40M and tires in 225/50/17font and 225/55/17rear

Re: Winter Setup?

I got a set of 17" Sport Edition Teknos with Blizzak WS-50s mounted on them from tirerack.com for under $1100. Definitely get yourself a set of dedicated winter wheels if you live in a snowy state.

Re: Winter Setup?

If you want to stay with the stock 18s like I am, I would recommend Pirelli 240 Sno-sports, 225/40/18s for the front and 245/45/18s for the rear.

Re: Winter Setup?

I've got Enkei rims with Yokahama snows (225/55/17's) on my Coupe and find traction and handling good in the snow.
The one size all around hasn't upset VDC or ABS, and was ok'd by my dealer.

Re: Winter Setup?

I bought a 17" wheel/tire package from tirerack. I got 17"x7.5" ASA KA3 wheels with bright satin silver paint. I have the Brembo brakes and bought the only 17" wheels they had in stock that fit. I also got Pirelli Winter 210 SnowSport tires (H-speed-rated). I got 225/50/17 for front and 225/55/17 for rear. My total after shipping was about $1350. I could have gone a bit cheaper on tires with the Q-speed-rated Blizzak WS-50's, but I hope the SnowSports will perform more like the Pilot Sports on dry pavement.
