The big name companies are EXPENSIVE because of there name not there overall quality compared to brands similar to them. Remember the days of rockford. A very commercialized company that charged serious money. You can find same quality for cheaper lesser know brands to the masses.
You either roll up to high school saying i have some JL's or Boston's. Every kiddie knows the name JL

some of you guys are too caught up in the name. A w3 isn't even close to the best bang for the buck sub you can get, it gets owned by many others. If you do some research on some online car audio forums, you will see that JL, while nice, aren't the best thing out there, especially not for the price.

JL is available at most large retailers and they handle warranty issues right there one the spot, which cant be said for a lot of the less known companies.
From what I've personally heard, the boston subs are not impressive.

In the end, if you buy something JL, and you can justify the cost, you'll be happy. Its kinda like buying a BMW, if you've got the money, you can't go wrong with it, but alot of us bought the g35 because it provided more bang for the buck, both in terms of performance and looks.

Basically, for the less than what you would spend buying a 12w6v2 and a 500/1, you could purchase a Elemental Designs 13ov.2 and a ED nine.1 and get much better performance. Here is a review comparing the two using the same amp http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/sh...highlight=w6v2 The retail cost for the ED setup is under $500 shipped with 3 year warranty, while retail on the JL setup is close to a grand. Since the subs are comparable with the same power, if you give the 13ov.2 900w compared the 12w6v2 500w, it'll beat it in all areas except for Sq, which is subjective. Even at Ebay prices you are looking at ~$750 and no warranty. Now take that extra cash, and buy sound deadening, and for sure the ED system will sound much better than the JL system. So if you aren't a brand *****, the decision is easy.
