I think it'll take a hit regardless, simply because they'll be a newer model out, it'll no longer be the standard. How much of a hit depends on how much better it is over the current gen.

One thing I definately hope that Nissan/Infiniti learned from the 300zx is to keep the design basic, and prices in check. Cars over time tend to become bloated, heavier, more expensive...making them lose their performance appeal. Hopefully, Nissan learned it's lesson when the 300zx became overbloated and way too expensive.

I'll put it this way, let's say we fast forward in time to the day the first 2008s hit the showroom floor. A 2005 with 25,000 miles that would normally go for $25,000 had there not been a new model will likely go for $22,500.

It isn't a huge difference, but it will only exacerbate over time.

A used car is a used car.

Cars lose value when a new model comes out because they're a model year older.

How long you guys been buying cars?

Long enough to know that a new generation of a vehicle can affect the resale value of the older generation.

The best way to answer this question is to look at prices historically. A used car depreciates 99.9% of the time (unless its a GN, weird huh?) and depending on what kind of car it is will determine the rate at which it depreciates. A new generation body style will increase the rate slightly, but the biggest hit will come immediately with it's release.

Expect our resale to go down my atleast a grand according to KBB when it comes out, after that it'll continue depreciating like normal.

Good thing I wont have the car that long! lol.

I agree that the 03-07 coupes resale value will suffer when the completely redesigned coupe comes out. It's inevitable.
