Have seen where low mileage and good condition '06, etc. coupes hold up well for resale. What's everyones opinion of what will happen to our resale when the new coupe is here--sink like a rock or maintain a fair level?

 

id say maintain fair level, I dont think the 08's will be as much as a hit as intended..just a hunch though

Low mileage and good condition cars always bring the most dollars.

An Infiniti is not an exotic car that will knock the world on its *** when a new model comes out. It's a well made Japanese car. Period.

The 08 model won't ruin the reale of any past models. If I thought that I wouldn't have bought my 07 2 weeks ago.

If carlos is feeling feisty, he'll make sure that the 08 coupe (at least the 6MT) will keep up with the 335i. Now, does that mean it'll compete with the published numbers (300 HP at the crank) or real numbers (275HP at the wheels). Who knows.

Judging by the improvements to the sedan, I'd say it'll be pretty substantial.

 

Our cars will take a hit, no doubt. Anyone who thinks otherwise is holding on too much. Think about it, everything is improved AND our body-style was sold out to the lesser Nissan going into production.

But hey, if you like the current G a bunch and are in the market for one just wait to ****** them off of the lot as they make room for the new one.

 

+1, if you really think the 1st gen Coupe's resale will not be affected by the 08, you're going to be in for a surprise. I'm not saying that the resale will fall like a rock, but it will definitely depreciate a little quicker. Same thing happened to the 1st gen Sedans when the 07 was released.

Too many variables to make an assessment at this point. Will the new car have that much more power to make it competitive with the BMW 335? Possible but highly unlikely. Will the styling be that much different? From the pictures I've seen, nothing earth shattering pro or con. Then of course there's the price. What will the new G cost? Once we get the answers to all of these questions, we can make a good judgement on the old G's depreciation.

 

As cars get older, they depreciate.

Introduction of the 08 will not affect the used car value of an 05 etc...

Some folks might step up to an 08 vs. buying an 06 based on perceived value of a new car. There will be plenty of buyers for older models due to the fact not everybody can afford to buy a new car.

Completely disagree. Take a look at resale values of the Sedan since the release of the 07 MY. While their values hasn't fallen like a rock, it has definitely seen a sharper decrease the last 6 months or so. The introduction of the new Coupe will have the same effects. With the introduction of the new Coupe and a completely revamped interior there will be many people trading in their 1st gen Coupes for it. With more 1st gen Coupes for sale, their values will decrease a little quicker.

 

I think there is some merit to this as well. How much remains to be seen. As said above, part of this depends on the changes made to the car -drivetrain, etc. and pricing affecting the desirability of the new car. No doubt there will be an impact but overall I don't believe the Coupe will be affected to the same degree the sedan is due to fewer numbers of them on the road in this area. I have the dealer regularly asking me if I want to sell mine because they have people looking for them. I'm sure that will lessen though with the new model out.

In the case of the sedans it appears the RWD ones have taken the largest hit since there is much more demand for the AWD both resale and new. In this area its hard to find an AWD yet there are a number of RWD ones for sale for a considerable period of time. Supply and demand is a pretty big driver as much as the fact there is an updated model.

Reselling a relatively expensive car (in my market) is always difficult since people at that end of the spectrum can often afford new or can easily lease a new one nearly as cheaply. That may be different in more affluent or largely populated areas.

 

Very good points Deane. I guess my whole point is that I think it is wishful thinking that the resale value of the current Coupe will be completely unaffected by the 08. Like you said, how much it will be affected remains to be seen.

 

I still have hope, they are introducing a new body style, take a look at what happened with the Eclipse's gen body styles, people rather have the late 90's look than the new look, etc. I like the previous gen mustang's looks better than the new gen's so I'm kind of hoping for the same with the new coupe ;D And by the sketches of the enlongated front hood and narrower windshield (looks like a jaguire to me) I'm not a big fan.

We'll have to see their numbers and price and options though.

If they're a 'hit' we'll take a beating, if they're a completely new look I don't think we will because people will still be in love with the G's looks as of now. Just keep your car flawless and low mileage and you'll be good ;D
