06' Clear Bra Material Peeling?

My 06 coupe with 5K is currently at the dealership having the clear bra material on the front of the rear fender flares replaced. The material on the passenger side was peeling away from the car, and the driver side began doing it as well. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is this clear bra material placed in that location on all the coupes?

I have an 2004 JDM 350GT imported and mine certainly has the clear film on the rear wheel arches. I guess because the arches protrude a little. I have now put Venturesheild on the hood etc and that film is thinner, so I'm guessing it is 3M on the rear wheel arches.

I also have film on the door sills from stock. Do you have this?

To be honest with you, I haven't a clue if I have the film on the door sills or not.....I shold know, but haven't payed that much attention. I'll tell you what though, ever car I buy from here on will have the clear film in places that are prone to chips - such a good idea. Props to Infiniti for doing it from the factory.

I'm driving a G35x while my car's being re-bra'd, and it's a hell of a car....it handles so much better than my coupe with rear active steer! We're getting a bit of snow here right now, and i'm looking forward to going out and playing around with the AWD.

What is Bespoke leather in your signature?

Yes I have the film in front of the rear wheels and on my door sills. I bought my '04 used so I was suprised to see the sills still had the film. Believe it or not I still have not removed it.

Don't remove it. It has a purpose to protect areas such as these. It is a very strong film

Yes, I agree; I have chips in places where I do not have the clear bra film - sides of the doors. Actually, I am wondering whether to touch up with paint or leave them alone as white chips marks. It seems that touch up paint always dries darker and is noticable. What would be your advice??

Bespoke leather - Well, we Brits cannot buy these cars new. We have to buy secondhand by using an importer or go to Japan ourselves to arrange. Using an importer you have to compromise on some things - as there are very few of these cars available for sale here. So, I took my car to a special leather upholsters here for a customer leather install. It had to be bespoke (tailored) because the car is completely unknown I wanted black with gray leather sides

My experience with touch up paint is all over the board...i've gotten touch up paint to work extremly well, and blend perfectly with small chips, a little wet sanding, and some major orbital polishing. Just filling in the chips and leaving it at that will look better than a large chip I suppose, but draw more attention to small chips. With any factory supplied metallic touch up paint i've used in the past, i've found that the metallic flek doesn't even come close, so it's a toss up....

So the JDM 350GT's do not come with a leather interior..interesting. I'd like to see pictures of the JDM version of the car to compare. Having been to the UK several times, I can imagine your car is extremely unique among a slew of BMW's and Audi's.

PS..have you seen any of these popping up around you?

The JDM 350GTs - there are two variants as I understand, the standard and the Premium. The standard is cloth seats, the premium is half leather trim or suede as I understand. There are some full leather but I suspect these are options taken up by the primary Japanese owners.

There are around 4 UK member on this forum (we sometimes lurk in the Regional UK section) - but just discovering each other at the moment !!! Yes, they are rare indeed. The only one I have ever seen is my own (I had to put money down on a car that I had only seen pictures of!!). Looks alone were enough for me, it could have been rubbish to drive and I would not have cared. Uniquenes is worth a lot. But, it's not rubbish, it's ace

Unique amoungst a Slew of BMW and Audi cars - never a more true statement. BMWs are taking over our roads here. They are not cheap either and very common; a paradox really - the benchmark in prestige motoring here is also one of the commonest cars on the road. I feel privileged to be different.!!!

Have not seen those parking mechanisms yet, I'm based in the second city, but I'm sure they're out there or on comming soon. Are there many over there??

I've not seen too many of the automated parking garages here in the un-progressive mid-west. I live in Columbus, OH - a large metropolis, but it's car friendly, with little to no parking problems.

Uniqueness is a very smart answer to the question of why you'd go to all the trouble of importing a car when an Audi or BMW would have been sufficient enough.

Cheers!
