The clutch its self will not be covered but more than likely they will give you the option to pay for the clutch it self just the part becasue it is not much more labor at all so if it was me i would do the clutch now instead having to pay the labor when it goes

why would i pay for a new part when my clutch has only 30k miles on it and grabs like the day i bought it? Im not in the same city as my dealership (im at school right now) and my mother has a service tomorrow and is going to talk to our service manager at the dealership. I doubt they will give me a problem with replacing the transmission, but i wonder if they will replace my clutch. I realize that clutch is a wear part, but now my question is - SHOULD they replace it? If im grinding, does that mean that my clutch will also go a lot sooner than it should?

5th gear grinding when exactly? Mine is slightly hard to get into 5th sometimes from 6th and it grinds a little, didn't think it was much of a problem...

Same here. I think it's the nature of the Nissan/Infiniti transmissions or whoever they source them from. I've driven many and owned two. All of them had rough spots in the shift pattern even some at very low mileage with no problems down the road and no change in the severity of the symptom. I also had two Hondas and comparing them to a Nissan manual is like night and day in feel. the Honda is smooth. Smooth as it was, I had a bearing go out in the Honda. Unless the car itself is running rough or there is an abundance of noise, I assume it's okay. Seems like the dealers are fairly inclined to replace the transmissions when someone complains. Seen times where people have had several in a row and all exhibited the same problems. That being said if you think it's a problem, by all means tell your dealer. Good luck with it.

i am taking mine in tomorrow to get looked at for the same problem. 2006 coupe 6mt, grinds only 5th gear but if i shift and slightly delay the shift from 4th to 5th then it doesn't grind. I am expecting the tech to say that its not a big deal because they dont want to deal with the warranty claim, but it sure sounds like metal grinding on metal and causing extra wear.

My 03' grinds in 3rd gear almost everytime when it's not warmed up. But i'm afraid if I take it in and leave it overnight, next morning th tech drives it they'll give me the same BS saying they don't experience it.

well i took it in this morning, right before i dropped it off it was still grinding in 5th. i explained very carefully to the tech what the problem was. He was very friendly and helpful, probably because we started off by talking about our family's military history. At any rate, he promised his best and only transmission tech, who also happened to be the head tech, would be looking at it. I'll post another update when I hear back from them.

My car is a g35 coupe with a 6mt. I remember a while back that there was a tsb or problem with this tranny or something that was causeing gcoupes to grind 5th gear. Ive had trouble getting TSB work done before (they didn't think it was a big deal that my gas tank would only fill with about 10 gallons). here are my symptoms (or my car's i guess)

When the car isnt warmed up all the way it grinds pretty much 100% of the time and VERY badly.

Once it is warmed up, I CAN make it shift without grinding, but if i shift without special care, it will still grind (not as bad as when it's not warm)

My problem is going to be that since it will be warm when they ride in it with me showing them the problem, it wont be nearly as noticeable (which my dealership will take as it not being a problem)

the car has almost 30,000 miles so i want this fixed before it gets outa warranty

My two BIG QUESTIONS:

What do I tell them/do to show them the problem that will make them realize they need to fix it and it isnt my fault?

and more importantly:

What do they need to repair/replace? What are they SUPPOSED to do to fix this? (like i said, i had to get my fuel delivery problem fixed twice before i could fill up a full tank of gas. the head tech said "thats a lot of work just so you can get a couple of extra gallons into your tank".. so yeah)

ps - i can pretty much get them to do what they are supposed to because my family has purchased 6 cars at this dealership in the past 2 years and they realize the importance of repeat business (the only thing they seem to know)
Easy, Just go in and tell them what you wrote. Just eliminate the commentary about the gas tank, etc. It looks like a good paying warranty claim... They should be happy..... Then again, I could be wrong.

They didn't replace my tranny. When I had my engine replaced on my '04 6mt with 38k miles for oil consumption, they couldn't put the flywheel back, so they got me a new flywheel and I paid few hundred for the rest of the clutch. When I got the car back, my fifth gear would not go in. It seemed like the 5th gear gate was not even there. The tech drove it forcing it in everytime, and said it's fine. I complained and said it was not like that before, and they supposedly took it apart, realigned something lubed it up and the next day it was back the way it used to be. The 2nd and 3rd gears are still notchy but at least all 6 gears work like they used to. My 5th gear wasn't really grinding tho. G/L

I won't say that all dealerships are created equally, because they are not.

I just had the fifth gear grind and my tranny replaced a few months ago. I recieved the most updated tranny and a new clutch for free under warranty. I left the car over night...fifth grinded for the tech...replacement.
