'04 6mt coupe started Grinding 5th gear - need help before dealing with dealership

I havent been around much on g35driver since going to college in August since i havent had any money with which to mod or change anything on my G. Now i have a problem and need a little information before dealing with stealership.

My car is a g35 coupe with a 6mt. I remember a while back that there was a tsb or problem with this tranny or something that was causeing gcoupes to grind 5th gear. Ive had trouble getting TSB work done before (they didn't think it was a big deal that my gas tank would only fill with about 10 gallons). here are my symptoms (or my car's i guess)

When the car isnt warmed up all the way it grinds pretty much 100% of the time and VERY badly.

Once it is warmed up, I CAN make it shift without grinding, but if i shift without special care, it will still grind (not as bad as when it's not warm)

My problem is going to be that since it will be warm when they ride in it with me showing them the problem, it wont be nearly as noticeable (which my dealership will take as it not being a problem)

the car has almost 30,000 miles so i want this fixed before it gets outa warranty

My two BIG QUESTIONS:

What do I tell them/do to show them the problem that will make them realize they need to fix it and it isnt my fault?

and more importantly:

What do they need to repair/replace? What are they SUPPOSED to do to fix this? (like i said, i had to get my fuel delivery problem fixed twice before i could fill up a full tank of gas. the head tech said "thats a lot of work just so you can get a couple of extra gallons into your tank".. so yeah)

ps - i can pretty much get them to do what they are supposed to because my family has purchased 6 cars at this dealership in the past 2 years and they realize the importance of repeat business (the only thing they seem to know)

your syncros are bad. take it in. they will replace the trans and maybe the clutch. I hear the swap is with an 07 or 06 trans.

they did mine with no questions asked.

...... 48 posts and im sure that you know what you are talking about on this issue. thanks for the input and when i wear out my clutch at 100k miles i'll plan on paying for it.

go post on a thread when you know what you are talking about buddy.

I know that this is a common problem with the 04's (03's too im guessing), but i just havent been around much on the forum and dont rememeber the details exactly.

if someone could direct me to a TSB on this issue i would be VERY appreciative (assuming there is one which i am)

they will most likely replace the tranny after 3 trips for the same problem.

if you want the service tech's to experience the malfunction.
drop your car off at night and leave it overnight and have the techs drive it in the A.M....They should notice the grinding, if its defective...

Good Luck

unless you are in good with the service people, they will make you prove to them its going bad...last time they just took my word and replaced the whole assembly for the 009 series with new pedal

well as you said yourself, your family has purchased numerous cars from them, youll needa new tranny due to the syncros and you shouldnt have a problem with them replacing the clucth

technicaly, a clutch disc is in the "wear" category, just like brakes and tires.

I dont say that dealer wont replace free of charge but I think they are doing you a favor if they do and they will have to fight a bit with Infiniti to get paid.

Anyway, good luck with all.
