Received 45k mile service notice - need your thoughts
I am regular on oil changes and since 36k I have been using Mobil1 Fully synthetic 5w-30 and a mobil1 oil filter. The first 2 changes I went about 3k miles between, now I am going about 5k miles between changes.
I have a K&N drop in air filter which I clean and maintain, my clutch and transmission were recently replaced under warranty so the tranny fluid DEFINITLEY does not need changing.
I just called my local service department to see what is involved in the 45k mile services, the following list is what they told me:
- windshield wipers
- battery service
- rebalance tires (seems strange, they're fine)
- oil injection additive
- air filter
- in-cabin filter
All of which runs $300
Now I KNOW the in-cabin filter could probably use a change, but I plan to do that myself once the weather warms up. They said they've been doing the oil injection additive for a little under 2 years now, and they say it is recommended even with synthetic oil. It's supposed to reduce friction.
Any thoughts? I'm taking it there on monday to get the drivers side window seal replaced as it whistles at highway speeds right by the rear corner of the window.
Thanks for the input!

- battery service=>inspection
- rebalance tires (seems strange, they're fine) =>another inspection
- oil injection additive=> never heard of it!
- air filter=$15
- in-cabin filter=$25
Most of these are just inspection and replacement minors parts! I bet you could do most of them yourself. For me, I just going to the Nissan dealership and get these parts from their, cheaper than Infiniti. As long you know the part numbers (G35 Part Manual). You should ask for their schedule service fee sheet, from this sheet, you would tell what they really work on your car-inspection or replace from 15K miles to 80K miles, minor to major services!!
Thats a good idea, asking for their schedule service fee sheet. I'm going to do that. Can you get an in-cabin filter from the nissan dealerships for cheap? I know they are expensive from infiniti, and I was planning on ordering one from everythingG35 (or somewhere online where I think I found them for $15).
I think the previous 2 replies have backed my gut feeling in that this is B.S. service geared at pulling in easy cash. Thanks all!

About the Tranny fluid, I didn't save much between Infiniti and Nissan. What I do is send an email to the part guy of both dealers and asking for the qoute of the same part, then I would see how much I would save!!! Hey, I have a house payment too! hehe
