Vdc

Hey guys,

Pardon my ignorance, but my sales guy didnt quite explain to me what is VDC (well he did kinda but it didnt make sense to me).

He told me to just leave it on (always), which I have done so for the past 5 months I have owned this car.

So explain, what is the purpose of VDC? When to have it on and off?

Thanks for your hopefully kind replies

its Traction Control, Also mentioned as the "Nanny"( dont look for it to be called that, its lingo) sometimes...If you push your car hard and a rear tire begins to slip, it will reduce engine output till the tire regains traction. It is ok to turn off if you want to have fun with the vehicle, however i suggest that you be experienced with rear wheel drive before you do so. The owners manual has some information on it as well

a lot of people leave it off, i had it off for a while and it was fun and all.. then started hearing stories about people on freeway who would get cut off or encounter a crazy driver, and due to the VDC off they lost control and flipped or something

so use your judgement

By "fun", I think they mean breaking traction with any of the tires. So spining the rear wheels, doing donuts, drifting, anything like that.

But it may also be possible to accelerate from a stop slightly faster without the VDC.

If you do turn the VDC off, be careful.

I can't believe you've had it off for 5 months!!!
The car is COMPLETELY different with it off and a lot more fun. Like a lot of others, and already mentioned earlier, is that I never have it on unless I'm highway driving or if it's raining. I just looked back at your sig and see you have an AT so I don't think you're missing out as much on the fun, but there's just something about ending a turn going sideways. Yeah, eventually after replacing tires more frequently I'll use it a bit more I guess.
Try it out but be careful and don't even think about not using it in the rain.

Do you guys turn it off everytime you get in your car. I leave it on because of the fact it's default to always on. I'm to lazy to push the button all the time, thats if I even remember about it. It does lower engine output by WAY to much In my opinion.

But its nice when it's very wet outside. Wet onramps are espically bad when you need to floor it to squeeze into fast flowing traffic and without that VDC I'd probably be doing donuts infront of people going 80mph on the interstate.

Is it like a switch on older models? Like I said everytime I start my car it's turned on.
