^ Wait are you talking about carbon or charcoal micro filters? Charcoal filters reduce odors smells better than oem filters.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but if you're not the original owner, it could be someone stuffed some skunk weed (pot) somewhere. As I recall from about 30 years ago, some of that stuff smells like skunk.

Yea, they do call them charcoal.

its your cabin filter. i had the same problem, run the ac for a minute or 2 before shutting down the car

It didn't smell over the summer using the AC. I get the smell now using the heater but I guess it uses the same pathways and the worst is the initial burst of air out of the vents.

Thanks for all the help. I guess smart money is on the filter but.....

I'll definitely check for:
-dead animals in the engine bay (skunks or others)
-nuglets in the vents
-Sam Adams or Red Stripe Beer in my radiator
-Pot (in the car of course)
-melted plastic bags
