Skunky smell

I'm bringing in my car Tuesday because I keep getting this acrid skunky smell coming out the top heater vents when the blower first comes on. I know that the dealer might say that it is the in cabin filter, could that be causing the smell? (BTW: I have 41K and have never had the filter changed).

It is pretty consistent but varies in intensity.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Les

i get that problem too. most likely it is the in cabin filter. the dealership recommends changing every 15k or year. which ever comes first.

typically mold. happens when the ac runs and you shut off the car, some water condenses and didnt dissipate fast enough so mold grew.. Fiter should fix it. Also, turn off the a/c for a full minute before you turn off the car

did you run over a plastic bag. I just did that shiit and the bag got stuck to the catilytic converter and melted onto it. Now the car smells like burnt plastic after a few minutes.

You might want to try the cabin filter with carbon. More expensive but could be worth it.

I'm surprised dealer didn't change the filter at your 30k service unless you didn't take it in.

Just the addition of carbon to the filter and about $20.
