I went to Audio express to see what speakers, amp, 2 10's i could get but keep the stock HU. the guy said it could not be done i needed a aftermarket radio. i asked why but he would not tell me. then started to tell me if i wanted to replace the bose speakers with better sounding ones they would be like 500 dollars just for the two door speakers. my question is can it be done and can i get speakers that sound better than bose for cheap??
As far as I remember, the stock Bose door speakers are 2 ohm, so you just need to get some after market 2 ohm speakers. I'm just gunna wait when I upgrade the head unit and do all the speakers at once.
A decent amount of people are using Infinity Kappa's since they are 2 ohm and have a nice sound.
There's also a whole thread stickied in the audio/video section about adding subs and amps while keeping the stock HU.

Do you have the bose system?
If I remember in the sticky, you can replace the speakers and add subs w/ the stock headunit. It's much easier w/out the bose unit. The bose unit can be done, but from what I understand, it still won't sound that great unless you replace the bose headunit.

I have the PAC aem-nis2 and it works great.
and almost all the good speakers are 2 ohm or 2 ohm total load for components....so 2 ohm doesn't mean jack.
infinity kappa's are the bomb. if you want more go focal or boston acoustics....way more cash though. mbquart also

i still have the bose headunit , but i replaced the amp with a pioneer 4x 60w rms ( alot of splycing to get everything connected) and added a 12" audiobahn 900w rms sub with mag audio dub 1000w rms @4 ohm , i bridged the sub to 8ohm and it sounds verry good , i'm planing to change the bose subs with some 6x9 components probobly alpine or audiobahn , and i'll probobly end up changing all the speakers later on . if you wan to improve the sound just change the amp , run it at 4ohm and get an equalizer or crossover and you dont have to change the speakers or the headunit . I changed everthing myself and the cost was around $400 with all the amp's and sub, I went to a car audio shop and they told me $1200 , it took me 4 houers to do it.
