oil consumption got me

Well, all I've got to say is I am not going to FI this car until its either out of
warranty or I upgrade all the internals. I just don't trust this motor to be able
o deal with the increase in power.
I bought my '05 lakshore slate coupe w/6mt used. The car had 13,xxx miles on it when I got it back it June of 2006. The car now has 20,xxx miles on it and it looks like Infiniti is going to have to give me a new motor. Luckily since
I got the car I've let Infiniti do all my oil changes. So they know I haven't
neglected the vehicle or anything. I took the car in last week to have loud
clacking noise fixed that would mostly appear when the vehicle was cold. When the dealership checked my oil reservoir it was almost empty. I had just
had my oil changed 2800 miles prior to this at the same dealership. So they
are going to make me go through an oil comsumption test for the next 2000
miles. If anyone has any more info they can give me on this subject please
feeel free to chime in.
I just want to know if I get a new motor do you think I should go ahead and have them install a new lightweight flywheel and clutch since they will already
have to drop the trans.

If thats the case/new motor? Speak with the main man at service
and give him a $50- spot. Then tell him you will have the parts come time
for the swap

money makes the world go around

why do people always want something for free!???

They wont install aftermarket parts on the car b/c it brings up a huge liability issue with the dealer. the dealer isnt going to take a risk just to make your dumb-ayse happy much less for $50 bucks.

if the new motor were to mysterious fail because of the aftermarket flywheel or any other non OEM parts then the dealer WILL NOT warranty anything.
you would be on your own.

I assume a Toyota dealer as you have a Tundra? How about all those TRD parts?

You also specified anything (that would include Nismo). But for the record, JWT is a well known Nissan aftermarket supplier. Alot of dealers don't have a problem with it. Then again, these types of decisions are made in the individual dealer level. Most probably won't do this type of install but it's well know that many do.

why would an aftermarket clutch/flywheel make the motor fail?

The Infiniti dealer i go to in sacramento installs stillen parts(Intake, exhausts, grill, ect) they advertise it...

The dealer would have to prove that the aftermarket part cuased the damage to void any warrenty

Obviously you havent spoken to the proper people in the past?

I gave my service manager $50 beans at Pontiac and they not only
changed my S/C pulley for me they also tunned the bitc!

Heres another 1 for ya. My bimmer shop installed a 100 shot for me
and FULLY WARRANTIED the work. Opps forgot..that 1 caused me
$100 apples..get the point

I'm going through the oil consumption test right now. It's taking a while this time of year since i don't drive it in the rain. Oh, once I get the new motor, anyone wanna buy an 06 G35? I'm getting rid of this car as soon as I can.
