I pointed out a specific case where where you need a VERY precise shift to rev as high as possible without hitting the revlimiter. I agree that anyone should be able to shift by the sound of the car without a tach during normal driving situations becuase the actual rpms isn't can vary a little without much difference in acceleration.
Ok I read it. I still stand by what i said. Even at the track.... you have time to look at the rpms. Unless your making 8 second passes with 3 gauges to watch, you have time to look at the tach. Seems like there's a lot of unexperienced drivers in here. Yes even if youve been driving for 3 years.

Then you are changing your story, you said above that you don't have time to look at your tach when dragracing your GST, thats where a shift light comes in handy. If you do have time to look at your tach, I agree, there is no need for redundancy.

I came from a GST and had 3 gauges to watch and still didnt have a need for a shift light even on the track. Enlighten me.... please.
You wanna read that again yourself? "I came from a GST and had 3 gauges to watch and still didnt have a need for a shift light even on the track." Not changing my story.... shift light, still worthless.

I set mine for 4100 for daily driving, although I usually shift between 3200-3500

on another note this is one of the stupidest things to argue about ever. who cares if you have to look down and read the tach or use a shift light as long as you're driving well it doesn't matter IMO.... just my $0.02
Nobody said you would never have to or want to look at the tac. I'm just saying you shouldn't NEED to at this point.

Personally I think it depends. If you're accelerating, then you'd want to shift somewhere higher in your powerband to get the most out of that gear, and then shift the the next.

If your just cruising, there's no need to sit in 3rd at like 4500 and not shift into 4th because your shift light doesn't go off until 5000 lol. It's honestly just common driving sense. I'm not trying to sound like an ***, that's just my take on it.

its a 2003 6/MT. autometer shift light just for the 1/4 mile i unplug it during daily driving because it is very distracting. just wanted to know what people think is an optimal shift point
