IP + Clear Bra: Turned yellow?

Ok IP Owner's, your thoughts please.

I read up on VentureShield and 3M clear bras. Some say that the 3M stuff turns yellow over time (Don't want this on an IP at all, would not look good). Not sure if the VentureSheild turns yellow.

Some also say that the 3M shows stretch marks cause of the clear coat on it. The VentureSheild seems to be more flexible etc.

I would like to know what most IP owner's have used and are using.

Thanks

The VS is on my hood and my headlights, the 3M is on the front fascia.

The Venture Shield is thinner and more flexible than the 3M Scotchguard. The Venture Shield is also smoother in appearance than the 3M. The 3M will show stretch marks only if it's really been stretched to make it fit the car.

There is no guarantee against paint damage under the Venture Shield, due to hitting a rock or something. The only one that has such a guarantee is the 3M and that only comes from Xpel in Texas ....... IF AND ONLY IF you have it installed by one of their 'approved' installers.IE: One that has been to their school and spent about $600 to be there for 3 days. I have had the 3M on 7 vehicles and never saw it yellow no matter what color it was on. Nor have I ever had to try out the Xpel guarantee, because I never got any paint damage! So it may all be smoke and mirrors.

I got both products from www.stickercity.com, it's my opinion that Sticker City is getting their kits from Xpel or at least using Xpel patterns to cut them on a plotter. If you go to Xpel and then Sticker City note the price difference!

Good luck

Thanks for the feedback Gevo.

I noticed that it is indeed thicker than the VS. When u say that the VS smoother in appearance than the 3M. Is it that much noticable? If you make a comparison to the protective film that normally comes stock with the G35 coupe's rear quater panel, how much in similiarity are they?

THATS GREAT, i work for a tint company and the 3m clear bra product is terrible!!!! It WILL turn yellow!!! I took it off of my IP '04 coupe. not only does dirt get stuck in its edges and leave a black outline, but it just sucks. my reccomendation, remove it!

Sounds like a real bad infection ...lol....j/k the 3mm sucks imo. Make sure that there is a nice seal and that no water can get in. Some people tell me that it gets moist unerneath and thats what causes the color change.

Well looks like the VS seems to be winning the vote.

My dealership says that they use 3M.

My only concern is that the VS is not as thick and therefore more prone to chip damage etc.

Well in regards to the yellowing effect and stuff, the installer told me that it will not yellow and if it does for the 3M, then that is why warranty is in place for.

Who installed your 3M bra? i heard there are multiple types of 3M tapes as well?

Thanks all for the feedback.

it was the factory stuff, applied by the rear fenders. i sell that stuff, well i used to sell that stuff, we stopped carrirng it at our tinit shop because it was terrible. it faded( turned yellow), and looked bad when it gets dirty, and really didn't offer that much protection. only from really small rocks and such. I don't know what to reccommend, the leather bra's are the worst thing imaginable, and the 3m stuff sucks. i never worked with these other companies so i cant vouch for thier quality. so

I have the Llumar Paint Protection on the 05 and have not had any issues. I've been researching for the 07 and I understand the Avery Dennison product is far superior that Llumar, 3M, and the rest of the competition.

Sorry for the delay in replying. The Venture Shield is a bit smoother but only marginally so compared to the 3M. I have to show people the fact there is a bra on the car to begin with, so it can't be that much of a difference.

Protectionwise I can't really comment, this is the first car I have used the Venture Shield on all others have been 3M.

Yes I do have some areas where dirt has gotten under the edges. But that's a product of not having the film at the right place on the roll over edge of the panel. If the film extends past that edge, rather than being just next to it you'll get dirt incursion. Also when first applied the particular attention needs to be paid to make sure all the edges are down all the way BEFORE they get dirt on the adhesive, once that happens you are screwed.

Good luck with your choice!
