Re: Power Braking

I read somewhere that you shouldnt rev the RPM's past 2k while power braking. It said it could damage the stall converter. I would just hold the brakes and rev the RPM's up to about 1.5k but not to wheel spin. Just for a good launch. I dont think it would hurt the brakes as long as the wheels dont spin while holding the brakes. Check out this video (1mb) I have of a power brake lauch. It shows the gauges. http://home.earthlink.net/~digitalus...G35_01_1mb.wmv

Re: Power Braking

Manual transmission cars are able to handle dropping the clutch long term. You cannot say the same thing about AT's. And no, I don't "drop" the clutch at a high enough rpm that it can't catch or slips.

Re: Power Braking

droping the clutch and power breaking is bad for your cars...
but us ATers need to power break for a good launch...

Re: Power Braking

Yea I hit the limiter in 1st. SHUTUP! hehe jk man thats one of the downsides with the 5AT is the time it takes to switch after you upshift. Sometimes it's very accurate while other times... well you see. I hardley ever hit the limiter but it happens. I usually do an ECU reset after i do thought just incase it goes into some type of safe mode with the air/fuel mixture or something.

Re: Power Braking

High rpm or repeated power braking of a stock torque converter can lead to severe damage. Aftermarket performance TCs are typically furnace brazed, have hardened components and improved thrust surfaces/bearings/etc. to allow for this practice.

Re: Power Braking

Power braking at any rpm is worse on the transmission than not power braking. I only do it just enough to "wake up" the engine when I'm running for times, which is usually barely over 1000. I think you can get away with around 2600. But that's still bad for the car, and if you do it at every stoplight, you will unquestionably cut huge chunks from the life of your transmission. I would save it for "special occassions" only. Let those Hondas go.

Re: Power Braking

I haven't had to power brake yet... the car already has enough torque to move off the line with ease. The AT in this car is a heavy duty trannt. The same as in the Q.
