Motor Oil Used?

What motor oil does everyone use in their G35s? Can anyone notice the difference in the drive between the weights?

some info for you guys, Mobile1 is no longer a true synthetic

Mobil sued Castrol for calling their oil a full synthetic. Which according to Mobil it wasnt a full synthetic like M1 since its not made from a Group IV base stock.

They lost the case, so they decided to start using the cheaper base stock just like Castrol, pennzoil etc. Why make a real synthetic that costs you more money to make then the competition who is charging the same?

German Castrol Syntec 0w-30, Amsoil, redline are some of the few remaining TRUE synthetics( Group IV). The other Castrol syntecs, penzzoil platinum and now Mobile 1 are not TRUE synthetics. They are hydrolocked Group III oils.

You can, but it's different than the German Castrol that people refer to as being a Class IV synthetic.

I run the 0W30 German Castrol in my G. It seems to make the motor run a tad smoother at higher RPM's since it's a very thick oil. I used to run 5W30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, but made the switch to GC after doing some research and looking at a bunch of UOA results over on BITOG for our engines.

You might be able to find GC at your local Auto Zone if you're lucky. Not all of them carry it though. Other than that, you could always order it online... but for me, a lot of the appeal of the GC is that it's a fantastic true synthetic that can be purchased at a local store and has proven UOA results to show that it works well with the VQ engine. If I was going to pay the extra shipping by ordering oil online, I would probably use Amsoil 5W30.

yes autozone is the only place that carries it, if you see Syntec 0w-30 just make sure it says made in Germany on the bottle. Chances are any Syntec
0w-30 you see will be German Castrol Syntec. I have heard of an american 0w-30 but have never seen it with my own eyes.

Not sure if this is true but If I were you I would do some more research on the Redline Oil. It is a true synthetic but its developed more for a racing application. I remember reading something about how it doesnt have enough addictives to make it a good daily driving oil.

Winner! Finally!

People were always "o noesz! 0w30?!?! noez!@#!@" lol...

German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 for the win. If it's Porsche approved, it will work in your G. :P

Mobil 1 used to be a great oil, but it never was a good oil for the VQ35. Every used oil sample from a G35/350z showed high lead content (bearing wear). Here is an example of how even yellow bottled Pennzoil Dino outperformed M1 in our engine.

I have seen a few UOA on German castrol all of them showed very low wear.
