is my car safe to drive??
i have been tryingh to change my oil for a while now.. its been 5300 miles since my last oil change.. i use mobil1 synthetic 5w-30.. i usually change it every 5000 miles.. my friend told me to not drive my car anymore because he said there might be oil sludge problems.. what do you guys think?? is it safe to drive??
I'd say it's safe to drive. It depends on how you've been driving during this interval and how many miles you have. if you have relatively low miles and you drive like a normal person, i'd say you're ok. i had a blackstone oil analysis done at 15k and they said i could go for 5k miles on my oil. I'm goin to send the 5k mi oil and see what they say. If you really beat on your car, I would try gettin the oil changed as soon as you can. you have an 06 wtih >10k miles and less than 25k miles i'm assuming.

I have a cousin that used to have a 04 G35 sedan that did not give a **** about the car (or any car that he owns), he went about 15k with regular oil.
LOL, the car had 0 problems. He recently traded it in for IS350.

guys i have a question.. yo know since we are using synthetic oil... arent we suppose to be changing it out every 5000 miles or so anyways??? why is infiniti recommending us change it out every 3500?
okay.... how often do you change your oil if you guys are using synthetic?
5000? 3500? i ask this because my dad keeps getting mad at me cause he says synthetic oil is made to last for a while before change...

It's not the oil that breaks down, it is the filter that looses its filtering capacity.
Thus, you should still change around 3000.
If you ever see the filters on BMWs that don't require a change for like 7500 miles or more, they are huge!
