Please help me decide!

Since this is a G35 forum, I'm sure this might be a little biased, but what the heck...

I'm about to buy either a 2004 Acura TL or G35 Coupe, both 6MT and fully loaded. I'm going to leave my decision in the hands of everyone on this forum, because I really can't decide myself. Here's what I've figured out so far...

--G35 exterior is awesome, but the TL interior is much better (mainly because i like the blue lit dash, the integrated nav system, the better sound system, and the dials for the audio volume and tuning). For some reason that analog clock in the g35 really bothers me, and what where they thinking when they put that pop-up nav system in?...and what's up with the orange gague lights?? I heard you can't even change out the light!

--Also, the G35 is way faster, BUT the TL is going to handle much better in the snow (I live in northern VA, so I will expect to see a moderate amount of snow each year). I'm not convinced that the snow tires for the G35 really help out that much, so this is a big issue too.

I've driven both cars 2 times each, and it feels like the G35 drives slightly better, and can be a lot faster...It's just really hard for me to get past paying 40k for the interior and having the cost of switching out the snow tires in the winter. Please, let me know what you all think! Thanks!!

They are both beautiful cars so which ever car you decide to get wont matter. It all depends on whether you want a 4 door or a 2 door. As for speed/performance, the TL isn't that far behind. Car and Driver rated the 6 speed TL at 5.7 0-60. Just choose which one fits with what you need in a car right now

I'd actually perfer to have a 2 door sports coupe car. Let me know if that changes any of your opinions.

Re: Please help me decide!

One is a great value as a 2 door RWD sports coupe. The other is a great value as a 4 door FWD lux sedan with good power. They're not real comparable other than that, so drive 'em and pick the one you want. Personally though, I think you'll have alot of other opportunities in life to buy a FWD Honda. Finding an uncompromising RWD car at the G's price is harder, unless you're willing to go with only 2 seats.

As for snow: (1) a G35 with snow tires will outperform a FWD car with summer tires, (2) the amount of days per year you need snow tires is really small, and (3) why would you take a nice car out in that filth anyway? The roads in Boston were completely fine once the storm stopped last night. My G could handle it easily now, without snow tires, because we spend so damn much on snow plows and road treatments. Personally, if I lived in NoVa, I'd skip the snow tires entirely and rent a FWD or AWD car on those 2 days a year I'd need it. For $45 per day, why not damage someone else's car?

I' ve test driven the new TL, & I would have no hesitation buying it if I really need a 4 door car now,in fact I would have picked it over the G35 sedan.Go for the G35 coupe now if that's what you prefer.

Re: Please help me decide!

I posted this here previously, but the thread got moved to the "other cars" forum. So here it is again, until THIS thread gets moved : )

"I just drove/rode 500 miles in my brother's new TL 5AT w/nav (NJ to VA and back for TDay), and it made for a very interesting comparison to my 6MT G35C/Nav. The G coupe is much more the sports car of the two; more power and throttle response, MUCH greater handling precision, a much more balanced chassis, less impact harshness at the same time as greater suspension control/stability, and much more of a BMW-like solidity to it. While it performs very well in every category, the front-drive Acura feels more like it's Accord roots suggest it should.

In fairness though, a 5AT G35 sedan would be a better comparison, and I've never driven one (loaner time hasn't happened yet). I did drive a 5AT coupe though, and I think its tranny felt a good deal more responsive than the TL's did. I only drove it briefly however, and it does have more power and torque than the TL, so I can't really state that with authority.

Where the TL just dusts either G35 is in interior design and amenities. There are too many features to list here so I won't go into it, but suffice it to say that if a slick interior with a freaking sh!tload (and I mean a SH!TLOAD) of jaw-droppingly cool high-tech features is what will really rock your world, then the TL is the performance sedan for you. If rear drive chassis dynamics and engine responsiveness along with a still very nice amenity/interior design quotient is more what you're looking for, then the G sedan might be a better choice.

The G coupe is another matter altogether. If, like me, you're willing to sacrifice back doors (but get a fold down rear seat, lacking in the TL), and value sports car responsiveness above all, forget the TL and get a G35C."

Re: Please help me decide!

I'm in the exact same boat as you... I cannot seem to decide between the two, mostly because they just aren't really comparable! They each have their own strengths, but in different areas. If I were comparing the G sedan to the TL, there'd be nothing to think about (at least for me). They each have so much going for them, but in separate areas. That's what makes it such a hard decision, and for me, it doesn't really have to do with FWD vs. RWD... 2 doors vs. 4 doors... 0-60 in 5.7 vs. 5.5... road holding of .90 vs. .85 etc.. Performance is close enough for me, but other than that, they seem to have completely different personalities when you get behind the wheel... mostly because the interiors are so mismatched!

For me, the biggest problem deciding between the two is that the car that I'm looking for is a mixture between BOTH! I want the sleek/sexy performance G, but with the TL's interior and features... and I think THAT's why we're finding so many people who are torn between these two cars. It's not as simple as just saying, "It's a FWD sedan... you can't compare the two." And I know that for me, it has nothing to do with 2 doors vs. 4... It's just deciding which car excels in the areas that I value more, and I just don't know! It's more a matter of each car representing something that most buyers in this price range are looking for, and each delivering 100% on one, and about 75% on the other. Which probably leaves more than a few people in the same boat as me... finding that performance is comparable enough, and trying to decide between the sleek and beautiful exterior of the G, and the gorgeous quality of the TL's interior and its features.

Re: Please help me decide!

lmfao... "YOU guys have to help me decide"... i don't know i might be wrong but you might not get to many people telling you to get a TL over a G on a G35 Forum.
But, just to roll with the punches... The G35 is the meanest most sexiest car in the market for its price range... my boy has a TL and doesnt get half the compliments i get on my G...

Like Aldo says, we all love the G here and you won't get many suggesting the TL over it. The G commands a lot of respect for it's agility, speed and beauty. The TL is a nice ride too, but can't compete with the G (IMHO)

Re: Please help me decide!

I was in the same situation but decided that i wanted a 2 door sports car. If i had to decide between a G sedan and the TL, I would definitely choose the TL because i think the TL is beautiful compared to the G sedan. I honestly have always thought the g sedan was ugly. Both cars are nice but since you said you wanted a 2 door car, well then it seems you made up your mind already.
