Tiptronic or D?

ok i tried searching already, but i couldnt realy find the answer i was looking for. I wanted to know if it is better to race your car at the 1/4 mile track in D or in the tiptronic mode. If in the tiptronic mode, what rpm should you shift up at in order for it to actually shift at the right rpm? Any launching techniques would help too. thanks.

unless your an expert at driving triptronic, just leave it at D. Since the triptronic lags from gear to gear, you can never get as accurate as you'd like to. Plus, the comp can shift faster than any human anyways.

Why bother asking. Try both see whatever please you more, bring your car to the track doesn't mean you only have 1 run. =)

Its definitely better to race your car in Tip, you get a feel for it and you can definitely get some extra out of the higher RPMS... but you can own your tranny too.. im at 30k and im gettin a new tranny probably because i drove around in tiptronic every day for 3 years

I drive in Tiptronic all the time. I have had the car over 4 years 104,000 km. No plans for a new tranny anytime soon. Once you get the hang of it, you will know when you have to change gears to make it happen at the right time.

Ya, I would like to know that as well because I drive around everyday in "manumatic" as infiniti calls it.

If you drive in tiptronic all the time, why didn't you just get a 6mt?

Yeah. . .um. . .I've driven my car in "manumatic mode" for the past 100,000+ miles almost exclusively. I've changed my trans fluid every 30k just to be safe, but I've never had any problems. What did you do to it? Bounce off the rev limiter in every gear?

BTW Redlude, I would have gotten a manual if I didn't sit in LA traffic for 80,000 of those miles! My next car will be a manual.

But if you shift using manumatic anyways, its the same as shifting in manual. Once you get the hang of it, the clutch kinda becomes subconscious

Let me clear something up.. shifting in manumatic isnt the same as shifting in manual. The difference is the clutch! What is better manumatic or triptronic? really depends.. the ecu is programmed to let the car rev high enough and shift when the HP curve is at its peak (this is in D mode).. so really there isnt a BIG difference.. where it could make a difference, or MANUMATIC is more useful is 1) when you start a race off the roll, you can hold a certain gear or 2) when you are racing in the course.. (u can downshift to control turning/cornering etc.)
Reving HIGHER doesnt mean faster.. remember that .. there is really not much of a difference..

well i can tell you all that shifting in tiptronic is better. I ran twice tonight once in drive and another in tip. with high humidity i ran a 14.5 @96 in drive. and then a 14.2 @101 in tip. i think i could have dont better because i shifted a bit too early on my 1st to 2nd shift.
