Diamond Graphite?

I've been waiting on a silver coupe when my dealer called today to advise that a DG model with my options package was coming in this week, and asked whether I wanted it. One of my earliest cars back in the late 70s was gun metal, very similar to the DG, and I enjoyed it, but I had the following reservations during and after ownership.

1. The gun metal color was short-lived and really dated the car after a few years. I intend to keep my coupe for several years, so I'm obviously wondering about the "longevity" of the DG color.

2. Because of its darker tone, the gun metal more readily exposed nicks, chips and dings. Does the DG have a similarly susceptibility to showing scars?

3. I recently saw one on the road at dusk, and it seemed to lack the sparkle of the silver. Then again, this photo below from Edmunds' site was taken in daylight, and those don't seem to do justice to the coupe either.

I'm obviously only mentioning what seem to me to be the negatives of owning a coupe in DG, and have not listed all of those positive traits that's got me seriously thinking about the DG. I would appreciate any feedback from owners of DG cars so that I can determine for myself whether I should make the change. Thanks in advance.

Re: Diamond Graphite?

Stick with what your gut tells you. The DG isn't a bad color at all, but with the pictures you supplied I really like the 2nd one in each a tad bit more. They both have a classy look tho, I just think the silver will be a bit more timeless and holds the lines of the "G" a bit better. Also in the 1st picture it looks to me that the color kinda runs into the lights and it is missing some definition there. Take a look at the 2nd picture and tell me thats not a "hot" car. If it were up to me I would wait for the silver. Take this for what its worth tho, comming from a Twilight blue "G" owner : )
I wouldn't trade my TB baby for any color out there tho!! : )

Peace

My gut told me to keep the Silver option, which I was dying for. After rolling up to the dealership and seeing the DG that I was told was available, I took it on the spot. I actually thought it was the silver until he told me it was the DG. Now, after seeing the silver, I'm still happy with my choice. I think the DG is just as classy and just as timeless. Its not a magenta or other "fad" color. The DG also tends to show off the coupes curves VERY nicely. You should have him hold it until you can see it. You'll end up taking it and you won't look back. Trust me.

Hey Balzac72,
I meant no offense at all about the DG, I myself have never seen a DG up close and in person.

You should go take a look at it and then make a decision based on how you "feel" when you see it.

Peace

Re: Diamond Graphite?

i'm with Triji. i'd go look at the DG up close and from every angle possible. for example, i used to think the caribbean blue was a horrid color (no offense to the CB people), until i saw it in person at a meet. it had this iridescence that the camera never brought out! definitely changed my view on CB.

DG never comes out well on pics. So many lighting factors can make the pic look totally different on how it really looks like in person.

Best thing to do is go see it in person. I wanted black, my wife wanted silver, so we got the mix DG. I'm glad we chose this color, even when you don't wash the car for over a month, the color hides dirt really well.

Re: Diamond Graphite?

i just took delivery on my DGc last week and i love it. i did seriously consider silver and twilight blue, and less seriously desert plat. i had a chance to go to various dealers, because one dealer did not have all of them in stock at any one time and see them side by side in person. in michigan so far i have only seen 2 other g35c (black) on the road so not much comparison there. i waited 3 mon for delivery of my car and contemplated the choice the whole time. in the end i think DG is a classy color, understated but sharp. true DG maybe a faddish color and silver maybe more timeless, but i intend to get a new car in 3 years anyway. truth is you cant go wrong with any color. trust me you'll be happy either way. to me to extend the wait to own one would be your worst decision!

don't start no sh*t, won't be no sh*t!

Re: Diamond Graphite?

My favorite color is DG (i went to 4 dealerships hunting for an inbound DG). It looks very "stealth" and not overly flashy. I love the gun metal/anthracite colors. Too me the DG looks the most "youthful/edgey" of the colors.

Good luck!

Re: Diamond Graphite?

thank god i dont have any chips or dents on my DG yet *knock on wood* so i cant tell you whether it hides it well or not, but I for one think that DG is a sweet color. im not really a big fan of silver...seems like half the cars on the road are silver and i think ive just grown tired of it

Re: Diamond Graphite?

I've had my DG Coupe for almost a year now. I ordered this car. IMO, DG is the most pleasing color to show the gorgeous lines of the "G". The silver was (is) to light for my tasts. Others must agree, it's the most popular color. Polishes up great too. The 350Z also uses it, It's called Silverstone. My only chips are in the front bumper. I'll probably have it repainted in a year or so, not that bad though. Great color, Great car.

Re: Diamond Graphite?

I have received more compliments on the color of my 04 DG coupe. Even after this weekends snowstorm in NY - it didnt look that dirty. I absolutely love it.

Re: Diamond Graphite?

DG hides dust really well, though i do try to keep it very clean.

when i went to dealership and saw G35 for first time, they had DG on floor, when chrome wheels.

i tried to rationalize getting the sedan, figured i'd get spoiler.

bottom line, ordered 6mtC in DG and never looked back. wait, i do look back. when i park outside and am walking away from car - i keep looking back.

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Re: Diamond Graphite?

I love the silver, however I realy think it is played out. Every other car on the raod now is silver. My coupe is DG and I have no regrets!

Re: Diamond Graphite?

The first and 3rd pic looks like DP to me instead of DG. Swing by the dealership and see the car in person in natural light before you make your decision. If you pick silver, that would be great b/c it is one less DG on the road like mine!! Good luck.
