Pushing in Clutch half way..
Pushing in Clutch half way..
Is it absolutely necessary to step the clutch all the way in before shifting gears in the 6MT? After having fiddled with my G35 for a few months, I’ve found this to be a great way to avoid jerky shifting. I do recall however it saying in the owner’s manual to fully depress the clutch when making a shift, can anyone shed some light as to whether this recommendation much be followed?
I would recommend fully depressing the clutch pedal.
I agree though that it seems a bit strange...sometimes the clutch fully engages with the pedal only half way depressed.....I dunno

You can actually shift without the clutch if you match gear speeds in the tranny.......Not recommended tho, since it takes some practice.
In anything other than very sedate driving tho these gear speeds are totally different requiring disengagement using the clutch and allowing the synchro rings to do their job.

half way you can get away with on the stock clutch because you dont feel the difference. Doesn't mean you should do it. If you had a race clutch, you'd know why you should depress it all the way every time. So just do it for the longevity of the clutch.
When you don't push the clutch all the way in, its like you are riding the clutch, which isn't good. As far as shifting smooth, I am able to do it 50% of the time now, trust me, it only happens if I struggle to do it or am not paying attention and luck kicks in.
