Whatever the insurance company offers, negotiate higher. Their number is not finite. I had a flood damage/total a while ago, and ended up a couple thousand higher after showing recent sale prices for same car etc. Do your homework, come prepared, and they will back down. Show up empty handed and you might as well bend over...

^ +1. Also, bring proof of purchase for any custom parts / accessories you had in your car. I don't know for sure, but some insurances require you to "declare" big custom items that you have in your car, otherwise they might not cover it. Does anyone know for sure?

Insurance will normally give u the median number between trade-in and retail
value. You might get a little better deal if its got really low miles and you have
everything you did to the car documented. Although how many of us actually
keep all our receipts for all the little crap we do to our cars. I mean I keep big
ticket items receipts but small stuff if its something mall it throw that stuff away usually. Plus you really can't prove what you paid for used parts youve bought off internet. Thats where you will lose out.
Don't you hate lady drivers in suvs I almost had a nice little fender bender
in a parking lot with one today. She just couldn't wait 2 seconds for me to finish backing out. she had to try and go around me. I think I stoped like 6 inches from her friggin Tahoe. Then she gives me the dirty look. If it was a guy I wouldve had to kick his azz.

Carriers vary. Some require additional coverage were as some won't pay anything above OEM.

I always shop companies just for that purpose.
