I have 50k miles on my G... I just got back from the dealer and they said the motor is broken... trying to charge me 300+ for the motor itself and + labor it comes out to 550 dollars.... I told them I would think about it, seems a bit high, any input? Anyone ever heard of someone replacing their own motor?

It's probably the Anti pinch feature. When the window is going up and it feels resistance passed a certain amount, it'll stop and then go down 4 to 6 inches. When you "roll" (I assume you don't have the roll up type ), if you hold it up just a little bit does it do the same thing? I don't mean you give it a flick and let go, the window goes up automatically. I mean if you let go of the switch the window stops in that position. If you try to close the window like that, does it still do it?? I'm having a bit of trouble with my drivers side window and when talking with my dealer he told me that they are having a lot of trouble with switches on the doors. So does it only happen with one side or both (switches I mean)? If one side only, it's probably the switch. If not, it's the anti pinch probably. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

There's a thread on how to do a window reset. Do a search, I don't exactly remember how it was done, but you have to remove the door inner trim to access the reset switch, it was a rather simple procedure. Try it to see if it fixes your problem. It may save you the $500+.

I took the door panel off and tried to force it up with my fingers but didn't have enough space. Just as I was about to remove all of those bolts to get at the motor, I searched and found this.

Gave it a solid Fonzie pound and voila! Window rolled up. If my neighbors saw me do that, they would have laughed at the POS car I baby so much. I don't understand how there can't be a recall on these motors. My driver side went about 2 years prior.

if you dont have warranty, its actually really easy to install a new motor. I did it in maybe 30 minutes and I had no idea what I was doing. Works great.

really the only hard part on most cars when changing out the motor or regulator is doing so with out damaging the window tint...personally i have never had window issues with mine so i couldn't speak from personal experience with a g, however i work at a body shop and am buried neck deep in doors of cars everyday and 90% of the time, it is not that big of a deal! g/l

If you ever get around to it, I'm sure people would be really greatful if you took a some time to throw together a little DIY instruction post/document on how to install the regulator motor. It seems like one of those things that's almost inevitable and we'll all have to fix someday.

I haven't had mine break yet(Knock on wood!), but I dread that it will someday and would love to have some heads up info on what's involved in fixing it myself.. not that I'd be afraid to attempt it without such documentation, but it would still be comforting to have it as a guide.
