For the OP, sorry but sometimes stuff just happens. I don't think you'll have any case unless it happened with your hood still latched.

I could hear the metal on the fenders/a-pillars crushing inthe process.
I jumped out and tried to shut it and found it woulnd't close more than 30 degrees open or so. The hood damaged both fenders by the A-pillars. Three guys had to pull the hood toward the front of the car to unbend the hinges enough to to get it to stay on the latch, but it is still warped/raised.
Infiniti says it is an act of god. I say its a defective latch and a design flaw because there is no stopper by the hinges or a strong connection point for the hood rod (which is cheap for an infiniti). Ininift say that once I pull the release form the driver's side footwell, it is out of their hands.
I think that's BS. That means any G driver that pops their hood latch could have that happen before they get to the front to even try and stop it from flying open.
Over $2k in damages!
I'm frustrated by this situation to say the least....any suggestions beside claiming it on insurance?

WOW- That is hard to believe. The hood was down, & the wind alone was enough to pick up a 40 lbs hood-opened 2-3 inches all the way to the top with enough force to do damage. What would make more sense is if you were holding the hood up, & a large blast of wind pushed it a few more inches causing damage. OR if you were driving and the latch gave away. This is defiantly an act of GOD. Unless you can prove a defective latch. That would be hard to do, in this scenario you discribed. GOOD LUCK>>>

My hood was closed all the way prior to me releasing the primary latch. The second latch did not hold for some reason. I suspect it was defective.
Not a pleasant sound to hear the hood grind against the fenders....Even less pleasant to find the hood wont shut afterwards...

FYI, Inifniti corporate says they're relying on the findings of the mechanic that the hood was working fine. My dealership(mechanic) tells me that ininfiti said they won't cover it even if the hood latch is defective because it was an act of god.
I still have yet to get an answer to my question of why my hood latch has no resistance to it? It will stay in the open position (to the left) while every other infiniti I've looked at pulls to the closed position (to the right). It is obviously not working right, but everyone seems to be more interested in finding a way to avoid that question.
Corporate and Delaer both point at each other, but neither can answer my question nor does either really want to investigate what the problem is with the hood latch.
Sorry to say this, but this turns me off from a car I used to love, for reasons on multiple levels.

Sorry it happend to you...
What year G35,
Has it ever been in a front end collision...
If it was used, and it was something minor that doesnt show on car fax, its possible some body shop didnt repair it properly to begin with...
There are soo many different variables that could be in affect here...
