Truths & Lies About Accessories Pricing
Truths & Lies About Accessories Pricing
Yo guys, I have heard some stories about having aero kit installed before they ship from Japan has an entirely different price than installed as an option at the local dealorship.
What is up with that? I mean, the spoiler is like $500+, and I was told if it is installed later locally, it will cost over a thousand bucks? Am I being Bullsh*ted or just people are treated ignorantly?
In addition, I was told that, if the spoiler comes with the car, then the dealorship cannot throw that in as freebee in terms of some discount... If it is later installed, then it can be... Sure, charging me $750 instead of $1100 for the spoiler...
To me, even if this industry functions this way, it is just purely BS!!!!! I worked at manufacturer for Embedded Mother Board and we did customization all the time... I mean, we don't charge someone when they purchase extra wireless kit, for instance... Installation takes time too but since they purchase from us, it is waived.
How hard it is to install a god damn spoiler? Yeah, it takes 2 years of training and a certificate to drill holes, sure, sell me that story~

[vent]This entire industry is a package of lies wrapped up in unethical behavior-- all set to pander to the functionally retarded average American. Sometimes the processes of it make me sick... but I still oft must buy a car. Ugh.

I can't stand it anymore..... aaahhh
I have been holding back from posting this so i don't get more angry, but here we go...
I bought my coupe over the past summer and had no spoiler so i wanted one... the put it one for like 300. When i went to get the car, the spoiler was scratched, i wanted another one... they put another one on a couple weeks later.... This time, they ghetto riged it on which i didn't notice until a couple days later, they used screws where they shouldn't have had to of been, and used silicone to cover them up, and other spots they must have had uh-oh's! I was semi pissed, but could live with it... Here is where i am furious... a couple weeks later opening the trunk i hear a screw inside the trunk compartment banging around. Everytime i brake hard accelerate hard hit a bumb, listen to music with high bass, open trunk or close it i hear a VERY frickin loud screw banging around in the trunk!!
For my 7500 service in the next few weeks i am going to tell them... (New trunk, with spoiler, NO EXCUSES)
I payed 38 g's and change, and i will go postal on those f^cks if they don't give me a new one! nonn ghetto rigged, and no loose screws!!!!!1
aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
Everytime i open the trunk i get sooooo mad especially if other people hear the noise... it is embarasing!
Peace

Re: Truths & Lies About Accessories Pricing
I purchased my G w/o the Aero Package (spoiler and underbody diffusers) because it was coming in with everything else that I wanted and I didn’t want to wait to order the exact one I wanted. When we negotiated, we added the factory Aero Package on to the price and the dealer put it on when my G arrived (actually a week later). I’ve had no problems at all, it was installed fine, the color matches, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

ericinmia,
if the dealer screwed up the spoiler install and if you're unhappy with it, why don't you go back immediately and tell them. i don't see the point in just sitting here and venting about it. just waiting until the 7500mile service may affect how they would handle the problem since you didn't notify them immediately of your disatisfaction. i'm sure the dealer could work with you.

Funny you mentioned about Accessories. I went to the dealer to ask for the pricing of the front lip spoiler. He actually shown me the book, and laid it flat. It shows the invoice price (painted) $260-$280 (terrible at reading upside-down), and shows another side, MSRP $360-$380. He said it's going to cost me roughly $390+tax.
Re: Truths & Lies About Accessories Pricing
Thats for the front lip spoiler? Which dealer is this? Is that with installation also? I m considering getting that front lip spoiler also. Thanks.
Re: Truths & Lies About Accessories Pricing
Many dealers do not do collision work or body work in-house. Usually these dealers have an existing contract with outside body shop to do their work (a LOT of customers bring their car back to the dealer for collision work believing that they will receive OEM quality work, which somtimes they do not). My recommendation? Purchase the part at the dealer (or look around, you might get it for less) and take it to a body shop YOU trust. Let them do the install for you.
At any rate, rattling around screws and mis-drilled holes means laziness and incompetence. Get them to fix it! At the very least they should pluck the screw (it just takes a magnet and time) and refill & repaint you trunk. Make sure they cover the rest of your car when painting so that they don't overspray the rest of your car.
Cheers,

Please elaborate... I am getting a spoiler added to my sedan as a term of the deal. Bad idea? and why?

because as stated above many if not most of the dealerships do not actually install them. Often it is contracted to someone else. Either way, technically, the second someone screws into your trunk, the warranty for the trunk, spoiler and related components was just voided. Add to that the fact that the dealers often use aftermarket spoilers that LOOK like the factory ones but are actually cheaply made and prone to leaks. Can you say massive water leak?
There is something to be said for having water tight intergity on a car!
I'm not speculating, I know first hand. 6 weeks, 50 phone calls, a trunk lid off an new car couriered from a 6 hour drive 1 way, an OEM spoiler expressed from the only dealership on the East Coast with one in stock, and a giant hassle later.... my BS leaky spoiler problem was finally fixed. DONT LET THIS BE YOU KIDS!!
This is not an isolated case... it is happening all the time. The dealership even admitted to me that they have had other leaky spoiler problems and I continue to hear stories from other people with leaky spoilers that were added on.
