I bought my 01 Volvo S60 stick shift without really knowing how to drive a stick. I had driven friends' MT cars in college a couple times, but I was far from comfortable with driving a manual. It really only took me a couple days to really learn how to drive it once I got it.
I'd say get the MT. It won't take that long, and you'll have much more fun driving it than an AT

if you enjoy driving, and it means more to you than just getting from point A to point B, then please get a 6MT. Honestly, you cant have a car so powerful and refined as a g35 in auto. Wheres the fun? You have no control with an auto? It'll take you a few days, and then it'll become second nature..6MT ALL THE WAY

Sure, you can learn on the drive home like i did haha. I had a little experience driving a stick (never owned one before the G) and the G was nothing like any of the other stick cars I had driven.

It's simple, if your intention to drive a manual, then get 6mt. Otherwise, you will regret getting something you didn't intend to get. Take on the challenge of learning as it only come with experience and time. Idealy you should practice on a beater to learn the basic mechanic/timing of how things work. As long as you know that, you won't toast the tranny. Happy shiftin

He's leasing so he won't own this car after 2-3 years. I say go do it and you'll find out if you are really a Stick kinda guy. It's either you'll hate it after 1-2 years of driving stick or you'll just fall in love with it. No traffic in the world that can make me turn my back on Stick and i live in NYC (Traffic + Potholes)

Learning stick is like learning to ride the bicycles. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Go for it.

thanks for all the comments guys. I really want to learn stick, it was my new years revolution. I felt ashamed that i knew so much about cars, and how good of a driver I am yet I had female friends who drove manual and I didnt.

And also the lease is for 15 months so I dont think I will get bored of stick which I wont.

I will be heading out to the dealer later today!

Best way is to have a friend who knows how to drive a MT teach you. Having someone there as you practice will help you get better sooner. IF you don't have any friends who know how to drive one just posts your location and ask a fellow G35 driver to help you. I am sure someone here will help you out...just buy the guy (or girl if you are really really lucky) a drink after.

Yeah, get the stick. I didn't know how to drive stick when I got my car. I actually had the sale man drive the car during the test drive, lol. The G is little hard to learn at first but it took me only a few hours to learn it. Stick is a lot of fun to drive. You'll love it over 5at.
