What to look for when checking out used 2005?

Hey guys,
I'm going to check out a used 2005 6MT coupe on Sunday. What in particular should I look for? Any adivce? It will be a private party sale. Thanks.

EDIT: Sorry. I meant G35 specific. Thanks.

drive it..you can never trust a used manual transmission car

other than that check for damage on the paint, tire wear, curb rash, scratches, mileage on car, rock chips..blah blah you get the point

oh yea..try and get receipts for service too

How many miles? Are you talking about specific 05 issues or just guidelines in general? If it's the latter, just search online on tips on buying a used car. kbb.com has a good guide, from what I remember.

make sure it drives good, and make sure it was never in a accident.

I am talking about specific issues to G35's. I am familiar on buying used cars. Is there anything G specific I should look out for? Any recalls?

I suppose its worth making sure there is no clicking in the rear axle when driving (try reverse as well). Also, try the windows and make sure they don't go up, then go back down right away.

Did the fuel hose recall affect the 05's? If so, see if it's been done.

Are all those issues (oil consumption, rear axle) covered under the warranty? The car is still under warranty.

Thanks for the responses guys...keep them coming.

The oil consumption issue has been discussed alot. Basically if you complain about the oil consumption to the dealership, they will probably have you do a 1000 mile oil consumption test or something like that to see if its truly guzzling the oil.

Haven't heard about the rear axle click...is that a 2004 or 2005 specific issue?

What do you mean you can never trust a used manual Transmission? I am buying a 6mt,.... define a bad gear box pls. I test drove this 05 g35 coupe 6mt, the car is so fine, but the stick is shaking when the car is moving. like when you try to hold the stick, you can feel it shaking. I ask the private seller and she told me its that way, maybe need to tighten 1 or 2 screw. How is a new Manual stick feel like? stable or kidda lose??

The gear shifter usually moves on rear wheel drive vehicles, typically.

It's not a cable link system so you're going to feel the engine vibration in the shifter. It's 100% normal.

a big one is tire feathering. yes, the G35s exhibit them. check the front tires and look for abnormal wear, i.e. the inside is almost bald while the outside still looks new, check diaganol treads for really rough edges vs clean ones. the wear should be even if you run your hand over the tire.

if the private seller is ok with it, you should really take it to a mechanic and check it out on the lift.

hope this helps.

Warranty should cover most items, but of course you will have to deal with the down time
