carbon fiber hood installed *pic*
Finally recieved the carbon fiber hood I ordered from VIS after two months of waiting. Fitment was perfect all around. There are little imperfections here and there in the carbon fiber weave itself under the clear coat. I can live with it. Overall not too impressed with it but then again I never really liked the look of cf hoods to begin with but, oh well, can't beat it because it was free. Although I have been seeing color carbon fiber pieces poping up here and there with looks pretty decent. As with the weight difference... there really isn't any. Our Aluminum hoods are just a tad bit heavier than the carbon fibers' hood. So not much difference there. Here's a question for you all, can anyone help with any info for someone fabricating a CF grill exactly like gialla grille. I think that would complete the look that I have pretty well.
took this pic right after I put it on. It was dark out. Will post more pics tomorrow.

looks pritty good. i agree i am not a big fan of CF hoods but it might work on a black G or a DG one maybe but the white looks nice with some contrast i guess i would have to see more angles

I tried to work with VIS on ordering a hood, but they werent budging on the price and or the shipping, which is crazy at $150! when I've had steel hoods shipped to me from Cali to NY for under $100! So I picked up (actually my girlfriend picked it up for me for Xmas) the GTP Carbon Fiber hood for $450 shipped! They had it listed for $750, so it was a pretty good deal! From what I heard directly from the guys who built it at GTP, its their first one, and they assured me it's the best in quality, structure, weave and UV protection, with no blems, dimples, or waves - gaurnteed, so I really dont have much to loose.
As for getting a Free hood, thats awesome! How did you pull that off? I've been talking with those guys for weeks now. They dont seem like the kind of people that would give to a charity let alone give away a free hood....

I actually like the carbon fiber hood, but I think it only looks good (ar actually right) on a black car. On any other car it kind of looks like you got into an accident, replaced the broken part and or body panel and didnt have the $$$ to get it painted.
For street use, it serves no purposes other than looks, but for race use, obviously its strong structure and light weight make it an ideal choice for body parts and accessories.
I personally would have NEVER accepted that hood with that kind of defect. Thats an eye sore and half! But since you claim it was free, then why worry about it...
Hey by the way, once again - how was it free? Please fill us in!

GO SPEED RACER, GOOOO SPEED RACER....
Looks like a cheesy *** Civic or Integra. Redeem yourself and the class of your car and put the white hood back on. Besides my intense dislike for it, that CF defect is pretty nasty. Use that as an excuse to get rid of it.
