Get an extended warranty from an infiniti dealership. I just got one that'll last me an EXTRA four years or 48,000 miles for relatively cheap. Cheap compared to the price of a new trans or engine...

Thank God I don't have any rattles standing still (so far). Most of them are on the road, even on a smooth surface. I have them on the center console under the shifter plate, the vents, and some phantom places I can't find. I'm planning on finally going into the dealer to take a shot at the console rattle that is driving me nuts.

The biggest one being with the transmissions failing out and I have heard of people having theirs replaced multiple times. It seems like infiniti just cant make one that works to replace the bad ones. There are also other common problems like squeks and creeks and rattles from all over the car along with poorly designed breaks and uneven tire wear. Window motors go easily along with many other minor things here and there that are enough to annoy the hell out of their owners. Im really dissappointed to hear this because I know how great of a car the coupe is and for the price it really cant be beat. Im starting to steer away from buying one now because of these problems. I currently own a 98 honda prelude and love it for its reliability. I was hoping that nissan being a japanese car maker as well would be on par, but I guess not
I have an '05 AT with about 16,000 miles. The only problem I have had is a faulty CD player, which was replaced under warranty. I have had zero tranny problems, but some with the 6MT have had a problem (can't say if it's the tranny, the driver or how it was driven). The Brembo brakes ('03-'04 only) had a tendency to wear quickly, mine have not. Neither the Infiniti nor the Brembos were poorly designed. I've read a lot about squeaks and rattles, but haven't experienced any. Some have had window motor problems, I haven't. The tires, especially if you have 19" like I do, are summer performance tires. They aren't designed to last a long time, they're designed to perform. Mine are wearing about as well as one could expect, and I should get to 23-25,000 miles before replacing them. I haven't experienced any feathering or other unusual wear. If you race, drift, do doughnuts, etc., you're not going to get good mileage.

I think what you're seeing on these forums are comments primarily from people who have had problems. Folks tend not to post about not having problems. I've read many surveys stating that people who have had a bad experience with a product tell 8-10 times as many people about their bad experience as someone who has had a good experience. Also, I think some folks have had problems with their dealers - I haven't, and I suspect most haven't. In fact, one of the reasons that I bought the G was because we also have a '98 Infiniti QX-4. It has required nothing but routine maintenance, tires and batteries. The dealer has been terrific about most everything. In fact, my wife is now looking the G35 and M35 sedans as a replacement for her SUV.

Infiniti usually ends up at least above average in quality ratings. So, I'd look real closely at the negatives you've been seeing.

Tire wear is a pain but that is the way the car is designed. Remember, the G is a sports car. There is no adjustment for camber, but the offset is for better tire to road contact when cornering. It was enginered this way, it wasen't a mistake or "problem". This will lead to premature inside tire wear. I need new tires too, but its a trade off for having a good value, all round, great looking great handeling performance car. If you want good tire wear, check out the ford taurus, you could probably pick one of those up cheap!lol

Tire wear is related more to the tires themselves - high performance tires are softer compound and thus wear out quicker than standard tires. There is some feathering but soft compound, inability to rotate due to directional tires and stagger, exacerbate the problem. This is true for most sport / luxury cars.
I have owned more than 20 cars (including Chrysler, Honda/Acura, Mazda, Ford, Toyota) and I have to say the Infiniti G35 is probably the best car so far. No major problems and I am happy with the reliability.

BMW, which most accept as being the benchmark for handling does not have issues with excessive or uneven tire wear. How were they able to get it right? Infiniti just might have finally recognized and moved up to this problem as they are offering the 08 Coupe with 18"s that are non staggered and should be able to be rotated.
