Question about 03-07 coupe reliability and repair
Question about 03-07 coupe reliability and repair
I'm in the market for an 04 G35c, the reason why I want an 04 is for the extra 6+ months that would remain on the warranty. I found one with the aero package, brembo, 6mt, moonroof, bose for $22995. The carfax checks out and I was going to take it to an Infiniti dealer on my test drive. The only problem I saw was that the car had 44k miles on it. I know that Japanese cars are renowned for their reliability, but I'm wondering if that would be pushing it? Would I be able to get 50k more miles out of it relatively maintenance free (with the exception of the brakes that i know g35's eat like candy)? Also, does that price sound reasonable? I was thinking I could get them to drop it about 1k or so, could I do more? Thanks for helping a newbie out.

Im also in the market to buy a g35 either a 03 or 04 for my wife. I love the car, but after some extensive researching I've found that these cars have a lot of problems. The biggest one being with the transmissions failing out and I have heard of people having theirs replaced multiple times. It seems like infiniti just cant make one that works to replace the bad ones. There are also other common problems like squeks and creeks and rattles from all over the car along with poorly designed breaks and uneven tire wear. Window motors go easily along with many other minor things here and there that are enough to annoy the hell out of their owners. Im really dissappointed to hear this because I know how great of a car the coupe is and for the price it really cant be beat. Im starting to steer away from buying one now because of these problems. I currently own a 98 honda prelude and love it for its reliability. I was hoping that nissan being a japanese car maker as well would be on par, but I guess not
No problem with the car. If you are searching the web and finding problems, base it off of where you are hearing the problems. Tehre are many G's on the road and people with them on the internet are an even smaller population. So just b/c on a forum people are talking about something failing does not mean it is set in stone.
Never ehard about the tranny failing, but hey if you read it on a enthusiast(sp) forum with people having 6mt racing, then it def means it happens to every car. However if you are turned off, better for the current owners as there will be 1 less G on the road.
I guess your price sounds right....

Well, i've had both my window motors replaced, each within 1 day of each other. That was pretty annoying but under warranty. And today I just took my coupe to Infiniti because it was overheating, I had another shop do the 30k service belts, fluid, ect and they didn't do it "right" according to infiniti, they left air in the lines or something, so i'm doin that over. besides that, i love my car! haha
Of course you could sight the worst cases....or you could look at it in general.
Overall, only minor annoyances are constant (rattles, window motor problems, etc). Things like transmissions failing are not normal

Shamingo............Some of your info is correct. There have been Manual transmission problems. As an owner of an 04 I can confirm the excessive rattle issues, front tire feathering and premature tire wear in general, and short brake life. I have also replaced my drivers side window motor. I'm on my 3rd set of tires and I have 20,000 miles and am a conservative driver. I am now considering on trading my car for an 07 G35 sedan.

I have 22,000 on the original 18" Pilot Sports and there is still a good amount of tread left, even though the tires will be superseded by 20" tires when my new wheels arrive soon. Getting that many miles on performance tires is very good in my book.
Do a carfax report and also if u can before u buy the car check with Infiniti dealer and see if the car has been in for any warranty work. I did a carfax on my '05 but I didn't check the vin# with Infiniti it had been in once for an oil consumption issue. I bought my '05 last year w/13,xxx miles now I'm in the middle of an oil consumption test to see if I get a new motor. I have had no other issues with the car in the 8 months of ownership. It's got a great exhaust sound it rides good even with the 19' wheels. I love the design of the car. The only shortcomings are: 1. Rattles 2. Soft Paint 3. Needs more Hp
But thisis from someone who came out of a v-8 before I bought the g. So it may have enough power for u.

yes tires wear out, but they shouldnt wear UNEVENLY like so many people say they do. I could understand if you dropped it or put on different sized wheels, but not on a stock suspension and wheels, thats bad engineering. And I have been reading not only on this forum, but on other forums and places like edmunds.com where people leave reviews on their cars. Dont get me wrong, the overall score on this car is very high. But the very low scores are the ones that scare me and there are quite a few, all with the same problems.
