finally got it, but with one problem
finally got it, but with one problem
After a 3 month wait plus an extra week due to the huge snow storm in the northeast last weekend, I finally picked up my g35 yesterday. Although I've only been able to put about 75 miles on it (on account of more snow) I'm definitely very happy with it.
The only problem is that the dealership installed a front license plate holder even though they weren't supposed to put one on the car.
Other than replacing the bumper I don't know if there's anything they can do to fix this that will look "clean", but if anybody has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Also, does anybody know how much a new bumper would cost? If it comes down to that, I'd like to know in advance what the cost would be so that (hopefully) I can persuade them that from a purely financial perspective it costs less to replace the bumper than to make a new customer unhappy.
BTW, in case anyone is curious, even though Massachusetts now requires a front license plate, when my old car was registered Massachusetts didn't use a front plate, just a single plate on the rear. They only issue a front plate if you get new plates, so by transferring the registration from my old car I get to keep the old plate and it is legal to have just the one plate on the rear bumper.

Re: finally got it, but with one problem
I got lucky. They guy that sold me the G was cool.. and knew i wouldn't like the front plates.. He just threw the front plate adapter in the trunk just in case. Doesn't matter to me whether or not it's legal in NJ to drive without front plates.. Front plates fugly up the front of the G.. and i cannot have that. I'd rather pay the fines.
In your case, unless you specifically told them not to in the first place, i don't think they are obligated to do anything. If you were going to do repeat business with them, then they would probably go out of their way to please you though. My dealer helps me out a lot now.. I first bought a G35 Sedan when it came out, and then came back a year later to buy a G35 Coupe too. I already told Angelo (my salesman) i'd be back for a FX for my mom later too
Damn i love those FX's

Re: finally got it, but with one problem
If it didn't take away from the looks of the car I probably wouldn't care, but it does, and I told both my sales person and the sales manager that I didn't want a front plate holder. They knew I'd be using my old plate and they made a note on my order sheet not to install a front plate holder...and then did it anyways.
When I picked the car up I pointed it out to the sales person, but he didn't have much to say. I need to talk with the dealership tommorrow anyways, so I'm going to mention it again and ask what they can do about it. I'm going to be diplomatic about it and I'm hoping it won't take much (any) effort to persuade them to fix the problem.

List cost on the bumper is about $220 plus painting and installation will bring the total up to somewhere near $600. Good luck with getting some $ out them. I know when I ordered mine I requested no license plate holes, if they would have installed one, I would have demanded a new bumper also.
