Re: New GT-R
2 completely different looks! it seems that this GT-R has taken its looks from the coupe. I really like the look of it....kinda looks like a space ship or something!

Re: New GT-R
it's an old concept car. I think this is what evolved into the now known G35/V35 coupe. If you see other pictures of it, it's pretty much the same. The interior is really nicely designed with a built in roll cage.

Re: New GT-R
Yeah, this post is from 2001! It makes sense that this was the prototype for the current G35. Although I would really be interested in seeing the new GT-R's. They should be due out soon, shouldn't they?

Re: New GT-R
"Soon" is all relative...Some sources say 2005, some say 2007...Once again, when Nissan wants the final version released, we'll see it...If it isn't at www.nissannews.com then it's almost gauranteed not to be official

Re: New GT-R
Carlos Ghosn recently announced at the Tokyo Motor Show that the GT-R will not debut until the '07 model year. It was a real let-down as many expected the new pre-production GT-R to make its appearance this year.

Check this out. It looks interesting if the quote is correct.

GT-R SPECS REVEALED
One of Japan's most reliable car magazines, Holiday Auto, is reporting
that Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn will make a significant announcement
concerning the next generation GT-R at Nissan's Tokyo Show press briefing on Oct 22.
The car will not appear, but critical information will be revealed.
NEXT GT-R REVEALED
According to the report, Ghosn will outlay a launch schedule for the new GT-R supercar with an unveiling set for the September 2005 Frankfurt show. The car will then appear again at Tokyo and then at Detroit before Nissan reveals the final production version at Geneva in 2006. The report also confirms that the next GT-R will be powered by a specially developed 3.2 litre V6 with a new electrically-assisted twin turbo setup generating in excess of 480 hp (350kW) placing it directly in Porsche 911 turbo territory.
Sitting on an aluminium space frame, the GT-R will employ a steel cabin unit blending light-weight materials with high rigidity strength.
The hydraulic centre differential used in the the outgoing R-34 will be swapped for an all-new magnetic clutch configuration with a choice of 6-speed Getrag manual or an 8-speed CVT inherited and upgraded from the current V-35 Skyline GT-8.
A revised Atessa ETS 4WD system will also be incorporated while the GT-R will sit on 245/40R19 rubber. The new model will also employ 6-pot Brembos on the front and 2-pots on the rear. But while we can reveal these details today, the final styling of the GT-R has not yet been signed off, hence the absence of it from this year's Tokyo show. Nissan know they must keep price down, and several commentators including the Holiday Auto report suggest a price under 8 million yen.
Of course this one kinda offsets the tone of the other with the 2007 comments, but it is important to note that the G35 was is in the US now and Europe is just getting ready for the G35 to make landfall. This could be a good sign that the US will see the GT-R prior to 2007.

Nissan will be launching a production version of its GT-R concept (photo), which will go on sale in all global markets in 2007. The successor to the recently-discontinued Skyline GT-R, the Skyline name will probably be dropped in order to differentiate the range-topping sports coupe from the mainstream Skyline saloon range. The GT-R concept was unveiled to much acclaim at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show, but a decision on production was slow. Nissan's planning and design boss Patrick Pelata told 4car that the Skyline has been a lower priority for the company as it has focussed on more profitable mainstream models. It's a strategy, he said, that is paying great dividends. "The product plan at Nissan since 1999 has been done for the revival of the company. That meant fixing the problems we had in the line-up starting with Micra in Europe, which was just too old. So our line-up revival is well underway and we are profitable in Europe, so now we can look at all the other important elements of the brand that were not vital to revive the company. And GTR is among them."
The good news for Skyline fans is that the new car will lose none of its purity. Indeed, Pelata says that Nissan has been talking to Lotus Engineering about the possible use of an 'active ride' suspension, which would give the GT-R outstanding handling in the most extreme conditions. Pelata also poured cold water on speculation that the new car would gain 4.5-litre V8 power, opting instead for a lighter V6 for better chassis balance. "The question of the engine is getting clearer for us," says Pelata. "With a V8 engine, what ever you do it is heavy, and if you want a 50/50 weight distribution, that is not the ideal solution. When you look at something like the FX [U.S. crossover vehicle], which is available with a V8 or V6, I'd personally always go for the V6. It just feels like a different car." Even though the final technical package has not yet been decided, the GT-R is likely to be a technological tour-de-force. "We are working hard on what kind of breakthrough we can do on the GT-R so that the people who have waited for so long will be rewarded," explains Pelata. "So we're reviewing a lot the latest technologies available to see what kind of package we can provide to the customer." And while it won't be cheap, Nissan wants to make sure that the GT-R remains accessible to the faithful. "It is very important that the price makes it expensive for the blue collar worker in Japan, but still available." Pelata reckons that these Skyline fans would be happy to pay about six million yen for the ultimate Nissan, although that will likely change by the time it goes on sale in four year's time.

I talked to somebody from NNA the other day. The engineers are already crossing their fingers that they will be picked for this team. Supposedly that would start next year some time.
One could only imagine a job like that, product testing the GTR <drool>

Re: New GT-R
So, back to the original post, yngphillykid's posts of the concept is the same concept (with slight refinements) of the 2007 GT-r. Wow 480hp at $75-$80K. But is it gonna be called a Skyline or GT-R. I heard GT-r was split from the Skyline line. Can anyone confirm this?
