Need help with G35 decision
Hey everyone. I need some help and I figured this would be a good place to come. My local Infiniti dealer has a 2004 Twilight blue coupe 5A/T, Nav, Aero, Upg wheel/tire. I test drove it and liked it alot. But I have always been a MT kinda guy (currently have 95 max SE 5spd). The car has all the options I want. Do you folks think I'll be disappointed with a 5A/T vs the 6MT. Do any 5A/T owners wish they had gotten the 6MT? I would have to wait and order the 6MT.
My other question is, the coupe I mentioned has about 185 miles on. According to the dealer, they are test drive miles since it was one of the first 04's they got in. This gives me some negotiating leverage, but should I be concerned about people test driving and beating on the thing while it should be broken in gently and babied?
Appreciate your guys advice. Thanks.

Re: Need help with G35 decision
There are a lot of threads here about the advantages/disadvantages of MT and AT. I think you just need to look at your normal driving patterns. You've already said that you're an MT kind of guy, so you'd probably be happiest with the MT. We have the AT on our G sedan, but that was because my wife drives it a lot, and she can't drive a manual. I also consider myself an MT kind of guy, and I know I'd be happier with the manual. If I'd bought the car just for myself, I would have gone MT, However, for commute driving and general running around, I'm quite satisfied with the AT. In manual mode, the AT can be a lot of fun, but still not like a true manual.
Re: Need help with G35 decision
i think it's all in the matter of perference, but if you are MT kinda guy, then i would suggest you to wait for 6MT. After reading some articles here, and being MT driver for past 10 years, i kinda regret getting 5AT, but choice is pretty clear if you think about what purpose this vehicle will serve imo. search and you will find many similar topics.
i wouldn't worry too much about test drove miles, but frankly, when i test drove one in auto, i beat the crap out of it. lol.. well good luck on your choice.

Re: Need help with G35 decision
I went from a '95 G20t MT to a '04 G35c MT, and didn't think for a moment about getting an AT. If you need any reminding why you chose the MT for the Max, you need only drive an AT equipped car: Less involving, less responsive, less fun. Since you seem to keep your cars for a while, a few weeks wait to get what you really want would seem worth it. As for the demo, it really depends how much they're willing to discount, and whether the dollars saved are worth the uncertainty to you of not knowing how it was driven for the first 200 miles.

The MT and AT are totally different styles. You either want MT or AT. As for 180 miles, that seems like a lot to me. Trust me on test drives, everyone beats the crap out of the car. If you like MT, I would suggest waiting for the order instead of rushing to get an AT.

tester.. umm.. i don't think u want the tester.. of course they're goin to give you a good deal on that car.. the tester model is always beat up real bad.. never realli broken in (if you believe in breaking-in).. when i drove the tester at my local dealer, i have to say i raped that car like no other.. i shot onto the highway like a bullet..
but either way, it's still a coupe.. if pricing is a concern for you, then yes, i'd look into it.. but if you have the means, i would say go for a brand new one..

You're a MT guy & the car they have is an AT & a tester. I say wait for what you really want and get a brand new MT.

Re: Need help with G35 decision
I have a 5AT I love the damn thing to death but I always wished I had a 6MT. If the decision was up to me then I would have picked a 6MT. The wife said she wanted to drive the car as well so I had no choice. Now I can't even touch the damn car 'cus she's always driving it. Anyways, if there is no nagging wife that is forcing you to get the 5AT then just wait for it. That way you get the car that you want with no miles on it.

It depends on your driving conditions. Lots of city driving, an AT might be best. Open roads an highways the MT is the way to go!
