I'm a newbie here...ex tt leasor new g35 owner and this car kicks tt's butt in everything but aesthetics but i'd trade that for this performance anyday. I need a little reassurance though... got carried away driving in the north carolina mts yesterday and passed 3 cars on short stretch of passing lane... about 80 in 3rd gear (6MT model, no mods) and didnt notice had breached red line(probably about 7k rpms). Engine sputtered like in that old ad mentioning high rev engines but I let up immediately and everything seems fine. Have driven about 60 miles since..accel, great exhaust note all fine. Think I wrecked anything? Never did this in the audi as it would whine so much above 5K that you were forced to shift.btw, manual says 85 top speed in 3rd...beware!!!

Re: redline

I believe there was a post regarding this some time ago, but basically, that's what the rev limiter is there for; to keep your engine from revving to the point where damage will occur. In a nut shell, you should be fine!

Re: redline

Don't worry, nothing is hurt, engine is fine and is kept okay by the rev limiter. No problems.

Re: redline

As long as you're not downshifting to a lower gear at a too high of a speed, the rev-limiter should prevent you from doing damage.

Re: redline

Does anyone know for sure if there's a safety feature in our A/T that would prevent damage thru over-reving if you shift down too soon? I haven't done it with the Sedan or the Coupe yet, but in other cars, if you shift down to soon for the speed you're going, then the tranny will not engage until ground speed has been reduced. This prevents over-reving accidentally. Anyone?????????

Re: redline

Yes... two things. The manual mode will not allow you to downshift into at unsafe rpm, and the rev limiter also keeps you from needing a valve job.

Re: redline

When I test drove the AT, i had it in manumatic and was closing on a stop light. I meant to only go down to 2nd but i hit the shifter 2x. It went to 1st, pegged redline and the car was all jerky. Good ol rev limiter. I bet that really impressed my salesman (NOT)
