What does the G and the 35 stand for?

Re: What does the G and the 35 stand for?
I'm pretty sure the G doesn't mean anything other than the series of car. The 35 represents the cars displacement (3.5 liters). The naming scheme is similar to some Mercedes (except AMG) which also use letter(s) to indicate the car series followed by displacement.

Haha, the concept is very quite simple. The "G" stands for, and equates to, $10,000. The 3.5 actually means 3 1/2. So, if you put the two together, you have a G @ 3 1/2 times which equals $35,000. Isn't this very close to what you paid for your G? Makes sense to me.
However, SoCalG35C hit the nail right on the head with his reply. G is the series, just as the I, Q, and M etc. The 3.5, just like most cars' emblems, represent the engine size in Liter's.

Re: What does the G and the 35 stand for?
The G just refers to the series of cars (comparable to 3 series, 5 series, 7 series) The number after refers to the displacement in liters like mentioned.
G (series #) 35 - Displacement in liters of our engine (V6 3.5)
I used to have a G20, the previous G model. It was powered by a V4 2.0 (hence G20) liter engine (SR20DE)
Another example, the Q45 (4.5 liter V8), you get the idea =)

AMG Mercedes also have displacement numbers. The SL55 is a 5.5liter V8 supercharged if I'm not mistaken.

You're right Dragon, my mistake.
I just thought they stuck a "55" on the end of every AMG model to identify it as AMG but that's not true. It really IS their displacement. Some are supercharged and some aren't. They just use that displacement in a lot of different AMG models including the CLK55, E55, S55, CL55, SL55 and G55.
