Hi Guys (and Gals),

I was thinking about changing my badging and wanted to get some opinions on whether or not it would look tacky to change INFINITI to SKYLINE and G35 to 350GT but leave the INFINTI symbol over the SKYLINE badging? If anyobe has done this or can PS for me, I'd appreciate it.

I've seen plenty of things on this forum that other members just love, but I hate. But it's not my car, so do what you want.

If I was going to put Skyline badging on my car, I would do it all the way. That would include changing all the Infiniti logo's out for Nissan. The hardest part would probably be the embrodery in the seats.

But that's just me. I like to do things all the way or not at all.

If you want to just change a few of the badges because you think it would be cool, knock yourself out. Don't worry about other peoples opinions and enjoy your car however you want.

Just don't paint it bright pink with a giant wing out back and decals all over. I think nearly everyone thinks that looks tacky.

It's whatever you want to do. Many have done what you suggest. I myself have only changed the G35 to 350GT, and left the rest alone. The other day, while I was washing my car, a Vetts drove up and the driver asked how a 350GT differed from a G35. I could have made up a helluva story, but I didn't.

It's been done by many! I'm actually going to do it also, a friend of mine (very generous friend.. sheesh) gave me the badges for xmas... including the front and rear Nissan badges. I'm thinking of just putting on the Skyline and the 350GT badges. I don't think it looks tacky. Most people don't even know what this car is anyway. It's weird.. people who know what the G35 Coupe know that it's an awesome car. Those who don't know what it is.. are oblivious to it. Unlike say a VW Beetle, everyone knows what that is.

 

I like it with or without the nissan emblems. But I don't think I'l do it to mine. I'll just never get around to it, unless someone gives them to me.

lately I've been hearing that JDM is considered to be "ricey" now. But I still like it.

Tacky? No. Just kind of silly, since it's not a Skyline any more than that new Pontiac is a GTO. Their marketing guys just called them that so people will associate them with performance cars that they have nothing in common with. Personally, I think the G stands on its own, and didn't need that crap to sell itself.

I don't want to start this whole it's a Skyline, it's not a Skyline argument. But, how can you say "it's not a Skyline any more than that new Pontiac is a GTO". It may not be a GT-R but it's definatly a Skyline. Just look at Nissans website in Japan. The only differences between the G35 and Skyline 350 GT are:
badges, seats, a clock and the side the steering wheel is on. everything else is the same.

Well a vw beetle has been around for 40+ years...the G coupe has been around for 2. Plus, the beetle is a major icon.

I say don't do it unless you change the front and rear emblem to Nissan also. Even then, it doesn't make sense to me. You don't see Lexus owners rebadging to Celsior(LS430) or Windom(ES300) (ok...i've seen some IS3's with the Altezza badge...) but Same reason i cringe whenever I see a MB with the AMG badge when it doesn't have an AMG engine...You bought an Infiniti, be proud of it.

But it's your car so you do with it what you like.

I think it's a neat, discreet (without adding massive wings, pipes or wheels) way to distinguish your car from other Gs on the road. BTW, car fanatics in Japan have been known to do the opposite; i.e., replacing with U.S. nameplates and trim so that it looks like an export version of the car. Since the Infiniti brand is not used in Japan, it's even more distinctive to add the Mt Fuji logo.
