Anyone Regret It?

I have had my car for about 3 months now and I really love it. I bought this car without even test driving it, walked into the dealer one day, saw it on the showroom floor and drove out with it the same day.

Before getting this car I was in the market to get a 04 330Ci. Having driven the 330 and G35 coupe, I think that you get so much more with the G35. With that aside, I have a confession. Whenever I see a M3 I tend to stare at it go by and drool. And then I say to myself, should I have gotten an M3?

Now, I know that they e46 bodystyle will be outdated by next year, where as the G35 bodystyle is brand new. And a newer M3 will be out in 2005. But I still cant help the thought. For a couple grand more I could have gotten a mint '02 or even '03 M3. It seems to me M3's are a lot rarer than G35's, even though I might be wrong. Whenever I see a G35 I smile and glance at it, but when a M3 goes by my eyes are fixed to the car. Does anyone else feel this way?

What's wrong with me? Its not that I'm not satisfied with my G35, but....

I dont know what a "few grand more" means to you, but I have been a devoted BMW fan for a while, having owned a Supercharged 1995 M3 prior my G, and when I priced out a new 03 M3 vs the G35 I ended up getting, the M3 (the way I wanted it) came out to almost $14k over the price of the G35.

Re: Anyone Regret It?

I am talking about used M3's of course. The difference between the G and M3 new is about $20,000.

What I meant by a "few grand" might be more than what other people would define it as. But I am thinking anywhere from 2 -8 grand more. My G was about 38k sticker and after taxes and fees it was well into the 40's.

Looking on websites such as AutoTrader.com and BMW Forums, I find '02 M3's between $38-45k and '03 M3's from $43-52k. So it's not that much of a stretch.

Ditto on that...I was looking at the C5, the G35C and the M3...and bang for the buck, I don't feel like you could beat the G...and I'm an econ major...

I couldn't agree with you more! Bang for buck, the G35 is an excellent value compared to similar vehicles on the road today. When shopping around I was looking for power, comfort, style, and most important reliability! The G met those required with flying colors and I have no regrets with my purchase. My coupe gets more looks, and compliments than my M3 ever did. It was just another 3 series in the eyes of most, but the G is an unmistakably unique looking car.

"It was just another 3 series in the eyes of most, but the G is an unmistakably unique looking car." Im with ducatiguy on that- one of my friends has an '02 M3 and complains that it is indistinguishable from the average BMW to most. On the other hand, people compliment me and ask about my G nearly every day because they've never seen one before. Granted, the M3 is an outstanding car, but for the money, I'll take the G. Then maybe take the extra cash Ive saved and buy a Greddy TT and exhaust.

I also agree with DucatiGuy on that statement. Whererever you go with the G, there is always someone either drooling over your car or asking you about it. At least for me anyway. When I leave it at the parking garage people are constantly walking up to it and looking at it and even comming up to me when I go to pick it up. Its definitely unique at this point in time. Be proud and faithful to be the first people to own this car. Later on we can look back and be like we got this car when it first came out...Thats the way I see it anyway.

Dan..I'm the same way. The reason why I bought my G was because I wanted to save 20K toward my new house. But yes, I do drool as well. I was opting to buy a 330ci or a brand new M3, but buck for buck...teh G35 is the best value. My next car will be an M...fo sure.

Re: Anyone Regret It?

I had (still do) a chance to pick up a loaded 2003 M3 - SMG, 4K miles, the works for only $47K out the door. This is a great deal, but the G35 is already a little more than I wanted to spend on a car. That being said, my 6MT should be at the dealership in about 3 weeks. No regrets, but the M3 sure is sweet!

Re: Anyone Regret It?

No regrets whatsoever! I love M3's but that is totally impractical for me. A $50,000 car that you would be scared to leave anywhere in NJ! I actually shopped for a 330Ci and the $42K scared me off plus the fact that every secretary in NJ has a 3 series of some sort or another.

Re: Anyone Regret It?

It will be even harder to distinguish between the M3 and the 330Ci soon..... Early in '04, there will be a performance package available on the 330Ci that makes it look even more like an M3. It has the same nose as the M3 and even 18" wheels.

This is the same "performance package" that has been available on the 4 door version, only now you can get it on the coupe.

Re: Anyone Regret It?

My bro has a 330ci and i would say that these two cars are pretty evenly matched IMO... they both look nice, both drive really well, and both get lots of ppls respect. You could argue that the g35coupe has more HP, but the bimmer has a better interior 50/50 weight distribution and the awesome i6 engine that the skylines had... hahaha u cant go wrong with either car soooo i guess its all preference
